I have a wireless router ( Linksys E4200) with gigabit 4 ports and currently use the wireless for laptops and printers to connect and a wired LAN to my (QNAP) NAS and iMac connected to 2 separate ports on the router.
I have a TV with a Freesat PVR near the iMac that I want to connect to the LAN.
Would I have to run a new Cat5E cable back to the router or can I fit a gigabit switch next to the iMac and connect the TV and iMac to that? The cable to the iMac is around 20 metres, the TV is about 10 metres away.
I only want to use the TV to pick up iPlayer at the moment but maybe in the future ( when I have figured it out) to stream movies etc stored on the NAS
