I have migrated to a new 90d and want to select single point focus for almost everything. On my old 60d it was easy but I am having difficulty setting it up on my 90d. I have read manuals and without diving into custom functions how can I simply set it up as a default? Help appreciated. Thanks.

On my 80D there's a small button behind the shutter button and in front of the top control wheel that controls AF point selection, and lets you cycle through the various sized zones or set a single point. Looking at photos of the 90D it's in the same place. Push that button while looking through the viewfinder with the camera powered on and it should cycle through the AF zone sizes until you get to single point.

It’s not the most intuitive - but as default - as mentioned above, repeatedly press the button behind the shutter. It has a symbol that’s a box with 3 dots iirc. To cycle, you keep pressing. I think there may be a setting where you can press and scroll with a dial but as default, you need to repeatedly press the button to cycle through

Correct! Thanks a lot, it had me confused! While your'e here do you know how to enable the beep when focussed? I have it enabled on my screen but when I focus there is no beep. Thanks a lot anyway.

That's in custom functions somewhere but I have mine set like that, much easier to just push the button once then turn the dial. I spend 99.9% of the time in single point mode anyway so it's not something I press often.

Beep on focus is in the menu system on page 1, 3rd item down, just called Beep. Set that to enable and it'll beep when you're focussed, unless you're in AI servo continuous focus mode

Thanks but not now. On my 90d it's under the "spanner" and item 3 which I have enabled but no luck.

You're definitely in AI Servo mode then. That's continuous focus, as you'd use for tracking a moving subject. As such the camera never really achieves focus as it's constantly focussing on whatever is under the AF point while you have the button held down. Put it in Single Shot and it'll beep. Or your lens is set to MF mode

Unless I am missing something obvious I have checked all those on my top panel. I am using one shot not servo and my lens is set to AF and no beep. Very confusing!

Also as an incidental point I occasionally use manual back button focussing where the beep is useful.
