9/11 - 7th Anniversary - Sad. Let's have a 2 minute silence in memory of all who lost their lives and for the heroism of those who were perished while saving a few. :(

Remember what were you doing when the tragedy happened?

I for was driving to work in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A when I heard the news on my car radio.

I watched the initial impact as breaking news on the tele, couldn`t believe it when the second plane went in and then to watch them come down....

I was in a meeting with a client and it was interrupted by someone's mobile to tell that person what was going on.

I was sat in Maccy D's in Nottingham when heard it on the radio, the whole place went oddly quiet as everyone took it in, and that was just the first plane hitting, when I got home the second on had hit and the towers were just about to fall.

A sad day indeed. My thoughts are with the families today who lost loved ones on this terrible day 7 years ago :(

12.46pm I believe.

I was sat at my desk in my first job out of college, when a workmates husband called to tell her. He called back 15 minutes later to say it was no accident, another plane had hit the second tower. Noone could quite believe it.

I got home that night to find my dad at the door, asking if I had heard the news. I was fighting back tears at this point, horrible, horrible day :(:(

I think its the recent comparison to when JFK was shot. Everyone remembers where they were.

I was driving a bus at the time (the 92 or 93 IIRC), and someone got on telling me there was some sort of big plane crash in the US into a building.
By the time I got to my meal break into the canteen it was about 14:30 ish and the second one had not long since hit, and we were all sat transfixed in the canteen watching the news on TV.

I can even remember where I was sat.
By the time I got home the towers had fallen.

That night I was watching a collage of photos on ITV, with some music in the background. It was the end of the news program IIRC, and the last shot was them zooming out to show a photo of a teddy just lay in a deserted street, covered in dust. Everything was covered in dust.

All I could think about were what the children (passengers) and their parents were thinking just before the planes hit. It made me think of my own daughter (2 at the time), and I just sat there and cried.

Doesn't seem like 7 years ago...I was in a teleconference over in Dallas at the time.

Seems like yesterday.

I had just gotten home from school, Was a free period at the end of the day so came home early from 6th form. Was home by 2:30ish, got a text from a mate and turned the TV on. Pretty sure I watched the TV for the rest of the day. As said, 7 years is crazy. Seems like last year.

I was 11, and I was at a mate's house.
My mum and his mum were both fixed to the TV, and I didn't really understand it. I just wanted to play on the playstation.

I don't really know what to say as far as it goes. It was awful, yes. I feel so, so sorry for the families and friends of the victims of this terrible act.
If there is a God, perhaps he should start over, because I didn't think it was possible for people to be that sick and twisted until that day.

Can't believe it was that long ago. I was working as an IT Contractor at Virgin Atlantic, remember the entire place coming to a total standstill.

Still can't believe people can do that to each other.

I was in India. I remember seeing the papers. I can't read Hindi and assumed it was a scene from a new movie... got to Delhi and watched CNN and it all became clear. A few days later we were told to leave the country and fly home because Afghanistan airspace was about to get very crowded... our flight had to go around Afghanistan.

I was meant to have been working in New York City as part of a summer camp for inner city disadvantaged children, but chose to go to India instead...

at the risk of getting shouted down i find it very interesting that we as an UK website feel the need to mark this tragic occasion, and i do think its tragic and that it had massive global repercussions. For example the city was evacuated and nurses in london hospitals were put on stand by.

However, how come we mark this event but not things like july the 7th, or other atrocities / tragic events that happened in the UK?

Since when don't we mark July 7th? I'm almost certain we do.

I think the fact that it was an absolutely huge event Toothie.

A quick look on wiki suggests there were 2975 deaths from Sept 11. Thats a hell of alot from one terrorist incident in this day and age (discounting the political opinions of actions of war etc....thats not what this thread is about).

And we do mark July 7th (as a nation), but the fact is, more people were affected by Sept 11th, I don't think it matters what country it was in. It was a huge event as far as recent history goes, so it's not necessarily marking the occasion because we all know someone involved.

Edit :......here as a forum.....
We don't mark it as a forum, it's a member that started the thread to mark the occasion. If someone wants to mark July 7th in the same manner, then I'm sure it would certainly be met with a similar response.

i know it was a member, i didn't mean forum as is in staff i meant as in a collect of people. I just find it interesting that uk residents remember 9/11 before they remember July 7th maybe your right maybe it was just the size of the attack, it sticks in the mind more.

i meant on here as a forum - maybe i just missed it.

Ah I see. Like Marcel said, it's probably more to do with the size and intensity of 9/11 that makes it more memorable than 7/7.

Unfortunately I remember 7/7 in more ways than one because its my birthday on the same day :(

Looks like that's the reason, and its horrible when tragic things happen on or near your birthday.

I was at work, saw it on the news. Terrible tragedy.

My brother flew home from New York the day before it all happened, he was sat watching it on the news jet lagged. and he was in the tower exactly a week beforehand.

My thoughts are with those who weren't so lucky.
