I've just picked up a couple of photos that my wife took to boots to be printed. I wanted them 8x6 so re-sized them to 2400x1800 but the bottom has been cut off. Is this something I'm doing wrong?

Yeah, 8x6 is a different ratio to your camera which is 3x2 or 6x4 or 9x6 or 12x8 (do you see the pattern?)

You need to crop first to 8x6 in an editor so you can position where you want the selected part of the photo printed.

Some kiosk type machines...I think some Boots have these, allow you to crop the photo prior to printing therefore you will not need your own editor.

Tom, they've already been resized to 8x6 with those dimensions 8 x 300 = 2400, 6 x 300 = 1800, so I'm guessing it is something else.

Do you have a shot of the original and what happened?

Sometimes there can be a little bit of cropping but shouldn't be much.

But resizing an image to those pixel dimensions will skew the image so there must be some other user error. You still need to crop to 8x6 or the pixel numbers.

I was right then. You exported at 8x6 but LR needed to crop your image and did it by cropping the feet orf...ouch!

When in LR, select the crop tool and the correct size before you export. Do this in the development module.

When selected it should have a grid overlay on top of your photo (which has a ratio of 3x2 (that is just the terminology not the actual size)), now you can move the overlay around your image until you are happy with its position. click OK or enter or whatever it is......then export the image. If you set the crop to 8x6 inches you should not have to resize in the export dialogue module.

Hope this helps.

I see exactly what you mean now thanks. When I crop to 8x6 in develop module, will it automatically change to 8x6 in the export section or does that not matter so much?

I think it does, my PC is incredibly slow so I tend not to use LR any more but I am sure that is correct.

borderless prints will always crop a bit off the edges even if its the right size

Kiosks using either Kodak printers or Sony printers will only go up to 6x8".

Any others will and should go up to 6x9 , machines like Fuji ,Mitsubishi, Shinko, and DNP
