Yes
I am on the verge of ordering a Tokina 11-20 but have been looking into filters for it. I only own one other filter which is a Hoya 52mm CP and I use it for photographing cars with the Nikon 35mm. I have read that CP filters on a wide angle lens can cause strange effects but this seems to be for landscapes, would I get the same issue with cars and does this also apply to ND filters? I would probably get a Cokin ring and adapter for square ND filters.

No, just for blue skies as the polarization is not the same in all directions.

I've got the Hoya and I'm pleased with the results. I'm using it on a Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 and with an adapter on the Canon EF 16-35 f/4.

I probably never used it with blue skies and 16mm. Two examples I remember for sure had it on the lens:

Polarizing

Watching his land

That's good then, I was hoping that might be the case and with reflections it'll work fine.

Those 2 examples don't look too bad to me but I've never really used mine for skies but examples I have seen show quite a difference from one side to another.

Thinking about the filter I have it might be the Jacobs one, I'll have to check when I get home. I've seen this, which seems a really good price - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Slim-82mm...er-UK-CPL-Kenko-Pro1-D-Hoya-B-W-/141968772097

Or there is Kenko - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kenko-by-...arising-C-PL-Camera-Lens-Filter-/251594877392

Yes, there are cheaper ones. I've got several of them for smaller lenses and so I have some comparison. The Hoya does not cut off that much light and gives a warmer touch, while the others tend to make the pictures more cold. I guess the colour may be corrected in post processing, so nothing critical, but I better do not combine expensive lenses with very cheap filters. But the Hoya is middle class anyway. ;)

Uneven polarisation occurs with wide angle lenses - probably not noticeable at longer than 28mm.

However, it is really quite easy to remove it nowadays, in Lightroom using the radial filter to select it the over-saturated area then and the contrast slider and perhaps a couple of others.

A similar price from Amazon themselves, so I think I'm going to buy it from them - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hoya-Digital-Circular-Polarizing-Filter/dp/B000KZ760M

I tend not to use polariser on wide lenses except in very special circumstances. I'm not very keen on most filters these days.

So without doing a lot of PP work how would you remove reflections on cars if you don't use a CP filter?

I have to admit the thought of putting filters on, cleaning them etc does put me off, which is why I've only got one. Having used that at car shows to cut the reflections and seeing how much better the photos look I definitely want to carry on using this type. I've never used ND filters but love the images they produce and will get around to using these one day. I don't use UV filters at all and just keep the lens hood on.

I use camera RAW in photoshop for my PP, which I think has less options than Lightroom but I didn't really get on with it when I briefly tried it.

Hey @Pezza4u I have that exact lens, and I'm using an 100mm CPL. As long as you know how to use CPL on an UWA and the limitations you wont have any issues. BTW, one thing I will mention about the Tokina 11-20mm, is that the thread is off by about 0.3 - 0.5mm so, not all screw-in CPL's / filters will work. At least on my copy.

Thanks for the info, I'm abit concerned now, I don't want to buy it and it doesn't fit, although returning to Amazon will be easier than ebay etc.

I assume you're using an adapter with the 100mm filter, any reason you went for that size or did you already have it?

I went for the 100mm system so simply one cpl and set of filters will work across my whole lens range. Don't think I'll ever have a lens with a front element greater than 100mm saves a lot of cash against buying a cpl / filter per lens .
