I currently export from Lightroom to CS3 in 8bit TIFF format for my final editing. I understand that 16bit is obviously better quality, but when I try this I cannot save to jpeg afterwards. Is there any way I can alter my settings to accomplish this? Is it a memory issue?

jpeg are 8Bit only.

You can

Save as a copy
or Change the Image Settings in CS3 to drop to 8 Bit
or just export to jpg from Lightroom and not have to worry about it.

Personally, I've stopped working in 16Bit. I can't see the difference, I don't know of any 16Bit printer and the files are so much smaller ( I save a lot of multi layer files when retouching).

So, unless I'm specifically asked to keep the file as a 16Bit one, it gets dropped to 8Bit asap.

That's fair enough. As long as I'm not losing anything significant I'll continue working in 8bit. Thanks guys.
