Just like to say a few good words for 7dayshop. Twice I have had to contact them and in each case I have had a helpful reply back within a few hours of my enquiry.

Jessops on the other hand are not so good as I have been waiting 3 days now for a response from them regarding an order I have placed.

Jessops are useless - limited stock and unhelpful dorks for staff who just want to stand and chat.

They have hardly any good discounts and their staff are just plain useless. I went in asking for advice on lenses and left even more confused...... I miss the old staff before they got rid of most of them from my local store atleast they knew what they where talking about instead of a bunch of kids!!

Well guys , the opposite applies with me, alway good service, and excellent prices from my local Jessops, always try to deal with the manager if possible.

Today my local Jessops, offered me a New Nikon 300mm f2.8 VR for £2645.00, great price :)

Jessops is a great place to buy some things from, but you have to do your homework.

I'd be very reluctant to buy anything based on the recommendations of the majority of their staff, except perhaps those in the "Pro" department at the main Sauchiehall St store in Glasgow, who tend to be pretty well clued up

I don't go to Jessops to get advice, but I'm happy to shop with them when the price is right. I ordered a Canon G10 from them online on 5th December. They had the best price I could find in the UK (and I do take my bargain hunting very seriously), improved even further by cash back from Quidco. After three weeks I decided I really didn't like the camera so I popped into the local branch at the weekend to return it under their 30 day returns policy for a refund. It was a hassle free experience and the refund is already showing back on my credit card account. I'm very pleased with their service on this occasion.

I have so far bought my D300, Sigma 10-20mm and Sigma 24-70mm all from Jessops. I got all of them cheaper than I could through any online store when I bought them, got cashback from quidco and was able to pick all the items in person an hour after I made the order.

Blinding! Would be gutted to lose Jessops!

As Tim says I wouldn't go to Jessops expecting expert advice but they will match any high street price and our local one seems to have a lot pro stuff in stock.

Was in a rush so bought my 14-24 there yesterday and got it for £974, not bad as pretty much same price as online retailers and as it is currently listed at £1250 on their website.

I was in my local Jessops in Denton (Greater Manchester) and bought a 5-in-1 reflector... Anyway the lass who served me was a 'tog and we chatted away (she'd just bought a 2-head Bowens kit) and I couldn't help feeling that it was nice to have someone who was knowledgeable.

same experience as OP, i found that if i wanted a store to shop in Jacobs were much better, they will price match from wherever in the UK even online and they have staff who know their stuff, Jessops on the other hand i will never set foot in as i've always had problems with them. 7DayShop is where i get all my film etc in bulk and they are gems in my eyes, never had a problem and they are always willing to help unlike jessops. I support local shops but not if they know nothing about photography.

Probably due to the time of year. Maybe a lot of Jessops head office and website staff are on holiday until after NYE or something.

There's a letter published in the latest Digital Photographer where someone had some problems with Jessops and they only wanted 2 bulbs for their lighting setup and got the run around between shops. The response was the usual from Jessops (After DP took the complaint up) they offered £30 vouchers
