Does a new Canon 7d come with the updated firmware pre-installed?

It should come with the latest firmware, unless it has been held in stock for a long time. Updating is a simple task in any case.

Check your firmware version in the Camera menu settings.
Latest version is 2.0.3 which was released in the UK September 2012

got my 7d in October and it came with version 2.0.0 I downloaded and updated to 2.0.3

I would of thought after 6 months most places would of sold their existing stock and the 7D's have been coming off the line with the new firmware for about 6 months now. As said, if you get one with the old firmware it's very easy to update. If you get it with version 2.0.0 then you'd be best off updating it straight away as version 2.0.0 had a tendency to create some problems with some 7D's.
