In either version f/4 or the f/2.8 is it worth the extra for the IS version?

I have seen the non IS f/2.8 at an exceeding good price. (Legit in UK).

Did not spend as much in Florida as I thought so just might well treat myself!!!

I'd highly recommend the f2.8 version if you can comfortably afford it - both lenses are tack sharp as you would expect but I find that the extra stop makes a massive amount of difference imo, especially at this time of year with the light being the way it is & also with the 2.8 DOF benefits of isolating the subject from the background.

With quite a significant jump in price though, I have the 2.8 IS version but if I wasn't doing so much low light work then I may have just gone for the 2.8 & taken my monopod (my bag weighs about as much as I do so I'm all about minimising weight :lol:)

IS is one of those things that you'll end up wanting on all of your lenses once you've used it but of course is very costly.
 
I've held your bag for you, not only is it bigger than you but I'm sure it weighs more.

Especially if you've chopped off your hair now too :p

The 70-200 2.8 IS is on my list of things to buy.

Shouldn't you be back at the North Pole now busy making toys? :p

I'd recommend the IS version if you can afford it, its a godsend with the 100-400 sometimes.
 
Thanks for the input guys.

I have had a play with a f/4 version (non is) on a body in Jessops once just to get a feel for the size and weight.

Still not to sure wether to just get the f/4 IS or go silly b****r and buy the 2.8 IS.

I will need the IS cause I will be shaking after my wife nails my ******** to a wall, if she finds out!!!
