Hi There
My first post on this great looking and sounding site - I guess as photographers we all sometimes feel alone and overwhelmed by the way this artform is moving! However our passion keeps us going through the headaches and heartaches - I'm back after a period of disillusionment- shoudn't have read Flusser's 'Towards a Philosophy of Photography'!
Anyway, I'm preparing my Ebony RSW45 to shoot 6x9 - I have shot 5x4 with it and the results were excellent, but I find sheet film a handful! I want to use my schneider 58mm (it's the only LF lens I currently own) and was wondering if anybody out there could help. Is this practical and feasible? what crop factor would result? I have marked the ground glass and the field of view seems to be approx 24mm on the equivalent 35mm format. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark Elmer

I use a 6x9, not really sure what the crop factor is as I tend to just use it.
If your 58mm works fine with 5x4 then you shouldn't have any problems I can see. You only use the centre of the lens so there's no problem with edge sharpness.

Only suggestion is to try and get hold of a 6x9 cambo or calumet film back (depending on your type of back), this means you can use it like a darkslide and is much quicker to frame, meter and use.

Very practical and feasible. I have shot 6x9 on my Wista, I have a Wista 6x9 Roll film Back. It's ok, but a bit of a buggerance as you have to take the ground glass out and use the graflok thingamyjigger to lock it in place. Hence, I would 2nd Ed's suggestion about the slide in/dark slide types.

I have, however, stopped using it completely as I decided it was just easier to crop in on 5x4 if I needed to and didn't want to carry the extra weight!

Have been thinking about selling it for ages, but never gotten round to it. probably should at some point.
