Yes
the only difference I can see is the 600 goes from 20-200 (useful on camera with my 70-200)vs 24-105 and the guide number is 60 vs 43 on the 430 ex (just clicked why the are called the 600 and 430!!!)

I'd like to ideally have a couple of flashes and was wondering if it would be useful to get 2x 430's or 1 of each, I'll be getting the transmitter too, 2 used 600's might be worth it too

Other things I would like are....
-a ring light adapter/beauty dish adapter, I think this would be useful whilst photographing my daughter. If anyone can reccomend one
-a small soft box to go over the flash, again for portraits of her, I think it's by Ezybox or something like that.
-couple of stands with adapters to play around with

I'm gonna be reading through strobist 101, I know some might say just buy one flash and learn but I'd like the challenge of learning at the same time with both and I'd like some new toys haha. Also, light science and magic will be ordered with the flashes as I've seen that recommended by Phil a few times...

After all that there isn't a question but I just wondered which set up you would go for? And would you just for for a lencarta set up, I could get the 3 light set up from them for around the house for less money? Then just get a new 430rt or a used 600+trigger for when we're out and about...

The 600RT is basically 2/3rds of a stop more powerful - well worth having. The 430RT mastering functions may be more limited, not sure on that http://www.lightingrumours.com/canon-430ex-iii-rt-7311 Personally, I would go for one 600RT and use that on-camera as both a convenient master controller and on-camera flash. Just because the flash is on-camera, doesn't means the light has to be coming from the same place ;) eg ceiling bounce light.

Everyone needs a decent speedlite, they're just so useful for all sorts of things. They also work well with studio heads, in situations that play to their strengths - I do that quite a lot. But if there's a choice and mains power is available, then studio heads win every time - modelling lamp, fast recycle, power when you need it.

As well as LS&M, get the Speedliter's Handbook by Syl Arena, just updated.
