5DIII CF slot - don't know but have I broken it?

Yes
I'm no stranger to CF slots in cameras and I'd say I've been using CF cards since before Adam started to show interest in the little lass in the garden.

I've owned my 5DIII a couple of years and it really has not had a lot of use. Using it today I'd noticed that the camera was auto-selecting to write to the SD card: the SD card has more capacity and as the camera was showing me both cards CF and SD I thought nothing of it.

Got home, took the cards out to download the images using a card reader and afterwards found that the CF card wasn't going all the way in cleanly. I blamed the card and tried a couple of different ones and it didn't feel normal: the cf cards would go maybe 80% in and then meet resistance.
Looking in the slot I think I can see a pin out of whack.

Option 1 is to do without the CF slot but I think my preference is option 2 - to get it fixed: I'm in Suffolk and have no idea where to start other than asking for recommendations on where to take my camera for repair please?

Thanks in advance

I have managed to straighten them in the past, and if you could, you could then use a CF to TF converter
I see! I need to discover TF and the advantageous advantages involved over CF. Right, leave that with me.

It's a long time since I had a Canon DSLR but the same thing happened to me and I straightened it without breaking it.

Well after a partially cr@ppy Christmas a successful tinker this morning with a headtorch, some slender tweezers and a screwdriver saw what looked like a bent pin straightened out. YESSS! Let's try a CF card, not the one involved in the bending of said pin and the card dropped in resistance free:D Right turn the camera on, select CF card for recording, card recognised by camera, take some photos, check that I can view them, format CF card and repeat. Remove CF card and refit and repeat.

Thank you for your support and encouragement guys.

Lessons learned:
bin the guilty CF card and examine the pinholes in all others closely.
invest in CF/TF card adapter for the 5DII and the 5DIII (yes I know the 5DIII also has an SHDC slot) and invest in a few SHDC cards.

As to engaging professional services I'd emailed Advanced Camera Services at Watton Norfolk right in the middle of their Christmas holidays so my request for help sits in their inbox.

When you get the adapters, make sure the TF slot is at the opposite side to the pins, so that you can remove the TF card without taking the adapter out of the camera (which defies the whole point of using it)

Thank you. I managed to get that after a few minutes of browsing the shopping sites.

Could anybody suggest a reliable CF adapter and where to purchase?

Thanks.

I bought four of these about 16 months ago, and they are fine.

I bought a dual TF slot one from a seller in the UK for more than double the price and it didn't work.

It's possible that a local camera dealer may have them, probably at a lot more, but they probably come from China anyway.

No link, Steve!
