5d Mkii custom white balance

I seem to have an issue with my camera, or me. Whenever I set a custom white balance on my 5d2 I end up with a really bad yellow colour cast. I have tried it with a grey card, and white paper, both give the same results. The exposure is correct, it fills the enough of the frame, the light doesn't change, I've even read the manual! Any ideas why this is?

What is the step by step process you're using?

What is the offset (approx) in degrees K that you have to adjust the image to get it looking correct in PP?
