Hi guys.

Picked up my 5D II yesterday, had a quick play last night and a (very) quick scan through the instructions.
Fitted my Nissin 622 flash unit and it doesn't seem to work "properly", the quick look at the instuctions seemed to indicate that it won't work properly, only Canon flash units will.

Is this correct?

Andy.

reading http://www.nissindigital.com/en/compatibilitychart.html it seems as though the original 622 flashgun won't work with the 5D2. The new mark 2 version does seem to be compatible. I guess yours will fire in manual mode, just not with ttl metering?

i think there are a number of 3rd party flashes which will work with the 5D2, however, there is always the possibility that it will stop working on a future camera.

i guess if you are going to buy a new flash i'd probably suggest you buy a canon one if you can for that reason alone. i have a 430 ex 2 which seems to be fairly equal to the 622, although it's probably double the price and it does everything i need.

Most adverts I have seen for that unit say it works with Canon digital cameras, so I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work with your 5DII, otherwise the people selling them would be getting quite a few returns.

Thanks for the comments.
On doing a bit more research I agree with Cuthbert :(
The Mark II came out in Sept 2010 and is compatable, but the Mark I isn't!!
Not even in manual mode.

Ah well, eBay it is then :)
