Yes
I tried to fire off a few snaps las night of my new doggy and my 5D wouldnt turn on, tried a differant set of batteries (in the grip) and again it wont turn on...

So i left a set on charge overnight, stick them in this morning and still nothing.

I havent used it for a week or 2, and the last use was indoors, so its not like its gotten wet or anything. Ive tried changing the lens, memory card and battery and nothing helps, im going to try taking the grip off and trying a battery straight into the body, but, I cannot remember where the battery door cover is, (will it power up without the cover on?)

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions before I have to ring Canon for a repair...

The battery door normally stores in a recess at the side of the vertical prong that inserts into the camera.

Not meaning to add insult to injury but hope you have joy soon - please let us know what happens

Yikes - sorry to hear that mate! Only advice i can offer is to try without battery grip as you say. DId you put the battery door in the grip (if you remember theres a slot for it). It should power up without the door though, i cant see any elements there........ just tried - no it WONT power up with door open (thought i'd buggered mine then too!!)

Cheers guys, unfortunately it still wont work without the battery grip, so ive emailed Canon.. What with the Bank Holiday I wont hear anything till Tuesday now. This is why id feel knackered without two bodies, things go wrong :(

I wonder if i could get myself a 1dmkIII instead of a 5D if it needs replacing rather than repairing, i can tell them ive lost faith in the non-pro bodies and would preder to pay the extra for a better model... :naughty:

lol - worth a try ;)

It must be unlucky month for us Dreeder. In the same position as you with my D200.

Hope you get it fixed soon.

have you checked all of the other controls, jog dials et? somthing may be in a mid postition and confusing the camera?

That's what I was thinking, Other than everything else you have tried I think something has failed, Can't even upgrade/re-install the firmware without the power either can you..:(

Try linking the camera to your computer via its USB cable to see if it wakes it up.

Taken the small button cell out too (if it has one)?

it does have a small cell, it's on the external control (remote/studio flash) side of the body, remove the small screw and the cover will pop off.

powering down the whole camera might work.....but i suspect it may be broken :(

DreederUK,Sorry to here about your 5D.I got back my 350 from getting fixed, for the second time and I missed many good Days of Shooting. But now I am a Happy Camper again.I am getting another camera this year so I don't have that problem again, like yourself.I will wait for reviews of Mlll or if they come out 5D that is Enviremently sealed I might get that...Decisions Decisions Decisions.....

Anything wrong with the memory card door?. It won't switch on with that open or the camera thinking it's open.

If not then does the little write light flash when a memory card is inserted and the door is closed? My 30D and my old 350D used to do this regardless of wether it was switched on or not. This may ascertain wether the camera is getting power at all and. If it is it's could be one of the door swtiches not working if not then prolly more serious.

Good point there by Sie. Thecard door is effectively an ON /OFF switch, so it could well be a problem there.

Ive tried popping the button battery out no improvement, i will go and have a fiddle with the memory card door... Thanks for the tips.

Damn... that's annoying... read infuriating! :bang:

Too late, im crying like a little girl here now... :(

As i said at the start of this post, i needed the camera to take a photo of my new doggy, well when my 5D failed I got the 1dmkII out and took a few and ive just fired them onto me computer.

My new best friend Stanley - 2-3year old Boxer

Hooch - RIP - The reason im currently crying like a girl, had to have him put to sleep on Friday as he had a Brain tumor that as rapidly destroying his ability to walk, eat and basically be happy. He was 9 years old, but, he acted like a 1year old full of beans which made it so hard seeing him struggle towards the end.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your m8 and I hope the new arrival helps you through it.

Dogs are brilliant, I don't know how I'd cope if I lost my little snert, she never fails to bring a smile to my face.

"Don't give your heart to a dog to break"

I can't remember who said it, but it's so true.

Sad news , but good luck with your new mate. :)

Awww so sorry to hear your news - but well done to you for taking the incredibly hard decision to do the very best you could for him right to the end. That is what responsible pet ownership is all about.

Good luck with the new one AND the camera.

You did absolutley the right thing chap - I had a Westie that i let live in misery for a month as I kept hoping he'd get better. He was 17 and the writing was on the wall.

Stanley looks like he's an able companion though

Good luck with Canon

Canon now have a firmware update allowing you take rubbishy pet photos, without it the camera fails to fire, thus saving you lots of Flak from other Forum Users.

I can see you are in top form in all the threads you have posted in today.

So, to save me posting in every single one, I think all of these should cover it...

Just an update...

I emailed Canon about the 5d on the 6th and they didnt get back to me, so i emailed Warehouse Express and they mailed me back within 20mins (at 10pm)

They told me to send it to them and they would forward it on to Canon... As Canon hadnt got back to me, I decided that was my only option.

On 9th I posted it to Warehouse Express, 15mins after I posted the package off Canon emailed me telling me to send it to one of their repair centres... Doh.

Anyone, I heard nothing and on the 15th I phoned WE to check they had recieved and were processing it, they then gave me the bad news, they had recieved it, posted it on to Canon, but it would be at least a month before I would have it back, and if they found a fault that I had caused, drop/water damage they would invoice me.

Today whilst at work, I recieved a parcel from Warehouse... My mum phones me and goes ballastic, I kind of owe her a couple of quid so she isnt happy for me to be ordering anything from them....

I ask her nicely to calm down and open the box, and to my amazement it turns out the 5D has been repaired and sent back to WE and then onto me, there is a Canon invoice in there for £16 repair, including 2 replacement PCBs and a WE invoice saying ¨charges paided and waived as a good will gesture to customer¨... :)

All in all, this one experiance has made me happy to deal WE again and its great timing as im off to London at the weekend. Im planning on selling the 5D when i get back from London and replacing it with a 2ndhand 1dmkIIn

Glad to hear its repaired, but don't understand whay you would of been invoiced for £16 when its still under warranty?

Seems like the damage is quite bad if they replaced 2 pcbs

WOW...that is excellent!

Did they say what the exact problem was? It couldn't have been anything major hence the £16 bill.

I have been impressed with W/E's performance in past dealings but that is a bit special on there customer care front. They will see be seeing a lot more business from me ;)

It's a shame more company's do not realise how important customer care and word of mouth is!

I must say I can't speak highly enough of Warehouse Express. I've found them very efficient in getting goods delivered as quickly as possible, and in dealing with any problems quickly and efficiently.

That is fantastic! Sure gives alot of props to themhear things like that! I diffenately would buy from them after hearing such a story!

Excellent news. Yet another good customer service story :D

I'm amazed, but very glad that you've got it back. It must have cost you a fortune in Kleenex:lol:

great news about the camera, so sad about your friend, I know what its like, but you're new bundle of fur will no doubt keep you occupied just as much! :D
I might have skipped over it but how old is the 5D? seems nice of them to repair it for a token £16 fee, result! :)

REsult, and great service too :)

Sorry to hear about Hooch, we've had three dogs go in the last year, horrible feeling.
