Has anyone done it and how reliable is it? With the 580EXII on the camera body and the 430EXII off camera.

I use a 580EXII with a 430EX MkI and they work well. I guess it depends on how far apart you have them.

On a recent project I had them approx 10M apart and I didn't have any misfire. I haven't pushed it any further than that.

I use two 580 EXII for off camera, works fine indoors but outdoors can be tricky though as there is nothing for the master to bounce off. If you do have problems with it triggering point the masters head at the slave and it should work fine.
Or put a diffuser on the master so it can throw the light out in all directions increasing the chance of the light hitting the slave.

Thanks for the advice Kieron. I'm building up a decent strobist kit. Once I have some PWs this shouldn't be an issue, but until then just want to make sure I know what issues I might face with this setup.

I read about those, sound pretty impressive. The older ones will hopefully go down in price too, but might just try and save up for a set of these. Did you get to use them at all?

No just had a chat with the guy doing the demonstration. Did not feel the need to have a play as I could see what they were doing. I loved the way that you did not need to set up the flash guns just leave them on TTL don’t even need to tell them to be slaves. Another bonus is that you could use a 430 on camera with them, no need for a 580 as master. This is provided that you can set the flash functions in camera like you can on the 1D series and I believe the 5d mark II. Or you could use it without a flash on camera allowing you to radio TTL off camera.

Any word on the release date for the European model of the TTL wizards and the prices?

Just got my 430EXII from gman on this forum. Can't wait to get home and play around with the two.
