just bought a 2nd hand 50mm 1.8 af lens. It isn't the D version or the mki window version. seems to be great. wondering if any of you know the lens and can give a comparison
 
I've got the AF version and have had a couple of D versions as well, no obvious difference, I suppose the D should allow better flash performance but I've not used them with flash.
 
I often go here for lens reviews, i think he posts honest informative details about he lenses he reviews.

The D stands for distance information for flash other than that there is no difference.
 
Thanks for that Tommy. All makes sense now. It's a great lens btw.
 
There are actually more benefits of using D lens other than flash exposure. The distance information is used for exposure computations in 3D matrix metering. Also auto area 3D tracking focusing pattern works only with D lenses. I would still get a non-D lens if the price is right.
