50D - Dirt on fous screen

I've had enough of the dust and hair that's accumulated in my 50D. I can clearly see it thruogh the view finder but the pics are clear so its on the mirror or more likely the focus screen. I've taken the screen out and cleaned it using a sensor cleaning pad but I seem to have made the problem worse as I've now got a smudge on the screen :bang:

So, have I damaged the screen and need a new one or can I clean it with something and salvage it?
 
Probably not damaged Rob unless you've been too heavy handed. I'd pop it out again and just wash it gently in warm water and a little washing up detergent.

Mine has dust on it and a scratch from a heavy handed cleaner (me), its annoying but I can live with it as I know its not affecting the shots and cheaper to leave it as it is :thumbs:
 
Thanks guys. I'll have a go at cleaning it in mildly soapy water tonight. Fingers crossed all will be well
