500px selling photos without attribution?

PetaPixel reports that 500px has been selling photos on Fotolia without crediting the owner. It's a bit more complicated than the title would lead you to believe, so you might want to read the whole article.

An interesting read but please forgive my poor understanding.

Is what is happening, broadly speaking, not dissimilar to the way stock agencies work I.e. that the copyright owner is hidden from prospective buyers and as such payments are indeed made to the tog in due course???

The prime difference in the OP is that Fotolia ate acting as an intermediary which by the methodology used confuses the issue.

Having said that my still simplistic view is why the heck 500px can't put any/all images placed for sale in the appropriate members file as a pending/placed image.........at least then the 500px member(s) will know which images are being offered for sale!
