500px commercial collections

I got it too, it's genuine and I added one image to their collection.

70% to 500px and 30% to the artist. I was hoping for more from 500px. The comments they are getting are not favourable. I have told them no thanks.

Fair enough... $3 per download was a good indication of things to come :(

Did you look into the option of marketing your prints / canvas through them or was that a no go as well?

No I didn't. The thought of someone being able to buy a high res jpeg for $2.99 didn't appeal to me. I often get emails saying "Someone would like to buy your photo" but ignore them. Most of my landscape work is with other stock agencies anyway.

I think we all know that stock is going down hill fast. It's a case of weighing up the options each individual has. I get a monthly income from it but by no means can rely on it.

I was hoping 500px may be a better choice but for now I will stick with the agencies i'm with. It's always a little bitter sweet when you make a sale as you're pleased to have made another sale but annoyed with the commission. I think Alamy are still the best at 50-50 which I'm happy with.

The advert email I got said 'revolutionary 70% royalty plan' which I read to mean the creator got the 70% of the $250 flat fee...

That's correct. Originally, they'd planned the other way around, but the launch posting a couple days ago was quite specific: you keep 70%.

The caveat, for photographers, is that the license (scroll down a little, to "Simple buying") appears to be "one size fits all":

One option covers it all. For $250 per photo you get the highest resolution and it's always royalty-free with a worldwide, any-media usage license. No expiries and no seat limits. That means unlimited print and digital impressions forever.

Still well worth considering, but if you're intending to sell prints or other media of specific photos, you'd probably want to bear those broad terms in mind before putting those images forward for consideration.

Ended up adding at least 10 images from their invites, a tiny % of something is better than 100% of nothing! I don't sell my photos any other way so for the time being at least it's good enough!

Interesting yes had a email from them wanting to work with me, but not had chance to look into it as of yet, interesting thread indeed, cheers guys.

I had one too. It says royalty free so I am not even going to click on it.

You do know that "royalty free" does not mean "free"?

 probably means $0.99 at 30% or something like that. And that means you can't sell the same image as RM elsewhere
