4g rollout today! What does this mean for 3g users?

With everyone using 4g from today (cough) does it mean us 3g users will get faster/cheaper service?
Not very technical minded, so genuinly curious.

they will milk 4g adopters as much as they can first, but we on 3g won't see any improvement for sure. It's the way it always works.

Btw we are looking at another year or two before most new devices have 4G, and until there are enough antennas to use.

not sure if cheaper but they are saying 4G doesnt work all the time when it does it is bloody quick
my contract runs out august this year looking for iphone 5 or 5s if they make one in time doubt it
4g is something that will be very usefull for me when im out and about answering works emails etc etc and i do like to watch tv while waiting in car while wife off shopping so will work a treat for tv cath up programmes i hope
but it has to be proven to work before i jump into a 4g contract

One of the reports I read had said that with developments in 3G capability those on 4G may not see a real world significant improvement in comparison although on paper it is a major step forward in data speeds.

Hmmm, hearing some bad reports about speeds not up to promised (advertised) ones, and outages/coverage in mast areas.
Also the new iphone has issues, like your hand blocks the signal unless you hold it a certain way! And the cost!!!
Think I will stick to 3g for quite a while!

I would much rather they roll out some coverage into areas like this where we can't even send a text yet without driving 2 miles up the hill.

The current iPhone 5 won't work with the other 4G networks apparently, it won't have the frequencies.

4G isn't really going to help you much with emails, they are tiny files anyway and with the current 4G tariffs you'll have to get the VERY expensive 8GB one and you may still end up running out of data (and having to pay extra)...

The EE 4G tariffs stink at the moment...

02 and vodafone wont be on 4g with iphone as said on diffrent band width so wont work
from what i know EE or fromally know as t mobile and orange
i spoke to 3 mobile who insist they will be on it with iphone 5 but i have seen it is meant to be only EE for iphone 5 for 4g network

Yep, and if you want to do anything more than browse the web and send emails then you're probably going to need the £56 PM two year contract... If you're just browsing the web, checking Facebook and emails and maybe streaming music then 4G is probably going to do **** all for you except increase your bills.

The UK phone networks are becoming more and more like US ones as time goes on. Gone are the days you could get a top end phone free on a 12 month £30-35 a month contract.*

*And before anyone says anything that included newly released £400+ phones, not far off the same priced phones today. Now you're looking at that price a month for a two year contract and having to pay ££ for the phone upfront.

I'd settle for Vodafone being able to supply any kind of reliable 3G service at present let alone 4G! Their 3G service is abysmal almost anywhere I go around the Worcestershire And South Birmingham area, whereas my Wife who is with Orange/T-Mobile (EE) has full 3G service almost constantly and consistently!

My son gets @ 20mps on 3g in town, on the street, on 3 network, on an iPhone5.
