This week the challenge is...

The Big Freeze

I thought we should make the most of the opportunity offered by nature and see what we can do with a theme that impacts us all. Of course, any creative thinking is encouraged, so there is no need to depend exclusively on nature to supply your subject. Anything connected with "freezing" or "cold" is fine.

Remember the competition is open to EVERYBODY and hopefully the theme is broad enough to allow something for everyone.

All the usual rules apply:

All entries must be new photos, taken within the time frame of the comp so please leave exif intact.

Maximum of 3 entries per person. Please post entries into this thread and, if you have two or three photos, please include them in the same post. You can change them up until competition close.

Limited PP, cropping, exposure control, sharpening etc is okay, multi layered cut and pasting is not.

Due to the delay in getting this round started, I propose that this challenge closes on SUNDAY 24TH JANUARY AT 9 PM. Winners will be announced later that evening.

In order to try to build a little more momentum for the contest, and with the extended finish in mind, I think we can allow entries to be submitted from 8 PM ON TUESDAY 19TH JANUARY, which will hopefully inspire more people to get involved.

The winner has the honour and privilege of setting up and running the contest for the following week.

arghh all my snow melted yesterday! lol hope my freezer is working.

OK since I conveniently have a few shots that I took in the snow last Wednesday, I'll start the ball rolling.

Neither is much more than a snapshot, so I'll save my third entry in case I manage to do something specifically for this

Trying! Lol haven't thought of a good one, so I may have to ops for a straaanngeee one lol

Thanks to those of you who have submitted photos so far. It looks like nature is not going to be kind to us for the remainder of the challenge (at least not in most of the UK), so for anyone still to enter, please get those creative thinking caps on. Maybe book a couple of days skiing, or get yourselves off to a "Snowdome" and see what you can find, or just do your shopping at Iceland this week. It's not too much to ask, is it? ;)

Well - this WAS going to be for the High Speed Photography round of POTY, but I thought it might be a little too off the wall...:)

Frozen Time

Problem is, I reckon that it's a better shot than the one i've already entered though

Snowball fight the other day - utterly mullered by my own dog (and he started it btw – photographic evidence available upon request should proof be required.)

The final score?

Alison : 2
Ginger : Many

It's great to see an increase the the number of entrants and entries this time round. Hopefully we can get a few more in before the close on Sunday night. Good job so far. :)

It's now 21:01 so the challenge is closed to further entries. I'll post up the winner shortly.

Firstly, thanks once again to all who took part this fortnight. I thought we had a great set of entries so well done to everyone. Picking the winner has been tough, but I have been watching as new photos have been submitted and I have my winner selected. Choosing between second and third place was much tougher. Anyway, in time honoured fashion, the results....

:3rd: TheBigYin for "Frozen Time", for doing something a little bit different.

:2nd: SebJay for "Ottawa" - very crisp and crunchy, nice leading lines too.

:1st: Alison for "Ginger" - a terrific shot. Fun, action, snow. I love it

Congrats to Alison and commiserations to everyone else. Perhaps next week :)

Alison, it's your pleasure and privilege to pick a theme and set the next challenge. It seems that running it over a fortnight is working a little better than weekly, so maybe you want to go with that.

Robbo, what happened?

Robbo, what happened?

well the ideas I tried out turned out to be a disaster! :'(

Thought I would save my self the embarrassment of posting, I think I best get an early start on the next one just incase lol

Great entries though, and yea, seems to work better of two weeks, glad to see more entries :-)

Thank you very much! I thought all the entries were great and wouldn’t have liked to try and pick a winner.

Is everyone ok to run this over a fortnight as Tim suggests?

If so, could someone help me out with the dates please? :)

Alison, I just read your recent thread over in the "Out Of Focus" forum. I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles. I do hope everything turns out OK.

As for dates, if you want to go fortnightly, which seems to be working a little better than weekly, then I suggest....

- photos can be taken from the moment the new theme is announced
- entries can be submitted from 20:00 on Tuesday 2nd Feb (not sooner)
- close and judge the competition at 20:00 on Sunday 7th Feb

Cheers,
Tim.

Good stuff...congrats Alison. That really was a wonderful shot :)
