This week the challenge is...

New Beginnings

Well with New Year just around the corner, what else could the theme be?
Any interpretation that you like, and with lots of you receiving camera kit for Christmas there's no excuse not to have a go.

Remember the competition is open to EVERYBODY and hopefully the theme's broad enough to allow something for everyone.

All the usual rules apply:

All entries must be new photos, taken within the time frame of the comp so please leave exif intact.

Maximum of 3 entries per person.

Limited PP, cropping, exposure control, sharpening etc is okay, multi layered cut and pasting is not.

The winner chooses the theme for the following challenge.

Entries can be posted from 8pm on Thursday 31st December until 9pm on Sunday 3rd January, with the winner announced later that evening.

Deadline extended by a week to Sunday 10th January

Winner runs the competition for the following week.

 Totally forgot to check this last night.
I got so caught up in the hundreds of new 52 threads that have gone up

I'm not sure if this competition has run its course, numbers have been dwindling for the last couple of months. But I'll extend the deadline for another week and see if there's any interest.

I suppose it is too similiar to the 52 posts....

1 theme every week, i suppose it takes a lot of thinking to do your own 52 let alone enter this competition..

Maybe it would be worth making this fortnightly ???
As i find it hard to find time to shoot within the 3 day timeline,
(Thurs 8p till Sun 9pm).

You can SHOOT any time over the course of the whole week, from announcement of the theme (hopefully on the Sunday night) to the contest close the following Sunday. That should give you pretty much seven full days for SHOOTING.

The restraint is on when you can POST the photos. The restraint is there so that people have a few days to come up with and execute their own ideas before they see what everyone else has got up to.

ooh, i was getting mixed up...
Maybe thats what everyone else thinks....
Thats not so bad...

lol might not be what you think!...unless you have read my other posts haha

I promise to try, works a bit crazy at the moment though :(

Well I really thought that this idea inspired by our house diary would be easy to implement. My goodness how wrong I was and how much easier it would have been if I could have used a bit of photoshop!

Anyhow, struggled with the lighting - wanted moody! Struggled with the DOF, I wanted the "diet" in focus but the January 2010 at the top blurred but only a touch so you could still read it. Just couldn't end up with the level of difference I wanted between the two.

Still just love that 35mm 1.8 though! All lighting achieved with an LED torch and various blue peter style snoots.

But here we go, could have spent longer on it but really feel the need to go to the pub :D

Any news yet Sarah? it cant be that hard there only only 3 of us in it

Sorry all,

Still no broadband at home :bang:
So I'm going to make this short and sweet since I'm at work.

3rd place to Robbo. Max is beautiful. I was thinking new addition to the family for your shot - but not of the doggie kind
Would be nice with a cleaner background though and the flash reflection in the eyes is a bit distracting

2nd place goes to Barney. I love the idea and you've already pointed out the couple of niggles . . . so close to being a brilliant shot.

1st place to Tim. Absolutely love this one

Thank you , Sarah. Well done to the other entrants too. They were both good efforts and any one could have been the winner.

It's a pity we're struggling to get more people on board with this contest. I think the problem is that the fewer entries we have one week, the less interested other people are in also entering and the fewer we get the next week, and so on and so on.

I'll try to get a new theme up quickly. Perhaps with the delay to the start this week I should also give this one an extra week. Maybe we can drum up a bit more business that way and get this thing revived again. Watch this space for the new theme.

do you think it would be a better idea to have this over a two week period all the time?

I know there have been weeks I wanted to enter and struggle for time, maybe we could run a two week trial period see if the entries increase?

As you will see, I have extended the next challenge. Let's see how it goes. I certainly don't mind going fortnightly if it makes it a better contest.

Ooooh goood result. Tim's picture as a belter!
Robbo, you need to bring that dog to Devon on holiday.

I'll be doing my upmost to ensure I get an entry in for No.48.

Barney

Cheers, Barney. Those little guys were playing and testing each other out, just very friendly stuff, but getting some practice in for when they are bigger. I thought it was a perfect example of "new beginnings". I like your idea too, and the wee pup as well. A nice set of entries, if few in number. Fingers crossed that there is a bit more competition for the 48th Challenge. Good luck, guys. :)

 Broadband seems to be in working order again for the moment (at least it hasn't crashed in the last 10 minutes)

I'll definitely try to get something in for this next week Tim, although I do quite like the idea of going fortnightly with it.
Some weeks I'm just too busy to do anything except my 52 shot.

It would be nice to see the numbers going up in here again.
