Hi guys,
Got a flash problem, its a bit long winded!
I have a 40D,430exii and an ST-E2 wireless trigger.I wanted a cheap extra flash so bought a YN460II. The idea was to have the two flashes fire together using the ST-E2.When I have the 430 attached to the camera and in manual mode the YN460 (in slave mode) fires simultaneously no problem .When I put the ST-E2 on the camera and try to fire both flashes simultaneously all sorts of strange things happen! The 430 rarely fires and the YN460 fires but not at the right time ! Am I doing something wrong ? Is it just a setting on the st-e2? I have everything in manual but to no avail.

Please help! Steve

Put the ST-E2 on the camera and the 430 on slave, make sure both are set to the same channel.

Then try adding the YN460, if there is still a delay on the YN I think the YN will be triggered from the 430 rather than the ST-E2.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the quick reply!Tried what you said but when I turn on the YN460 the flashe both fire but I get a blank pic! So I,m guessing they fire at the wrong time! Any more help would be appreciated.

Does the ST-E2 work ok with the 430EX?

Yes it works fine...funny thing is I can trigger the Y460 with the st-e2 but it fires at the wrong time and the pic is blank! Should have bought another 430 I suppose but funds are low! I think maybe the infrared from the st-e2 is messing things up...dunno out of my depth a bit! Maybe a shoe cord..?

I think the YN is triggering with the pre flash.

Yongnuo 460II is a manual-only flash isn't it? It won't fire correctly off the E-TTL signal from the ST-E2. It has a built in slave so I'm guessing it is firing off the pre-flash, ahead of the actual exposure.

Should work on full manual though (which deletes the pre-flash).

I've got both flashes set to manual and still no joy! Am I missing something?

What happens when you press the test button on the ST-E2?

They both fire but randomley...sometimes the 430ex fires rapidly!!

Theres a red ettl light on the st-e2 even with the flashes on manual ...is this a factor?

I don't think the ST-E2 does manual-manual, properly. Try this.

Switch off the Yongnuo (it may be confusing the 430). Set the 430 to slave and it should fire correctly off the ST-E2.

Put the 430 on the camera, set to manual, and the Yongnuo should fire correctly off that.

If it all fires as described, I think everything is working correctly. They just won't work together.

Thanks for the help Jim and Richard.I think you're right Richard, everything works correctly until the ST-e2 gets involved! I wanted the set up for water-drop stuff so I've ordered a cable for the 430...hope that works ok

Steve

Thanks Graham, I read that somewhere but I cant seem to make it work at all in S2 mode,
Do you think it maybe faulty?
