Alright guys

I just bought a Canon 430ex Speedlite and want to use it off camera, but im really skint

Are there cheap solutions to using it off camera? Cheap as possible. I already have a tri-pod so if there is an attachment so i can fire it wireless and have it mounted on tripod, that would be ace.

Any advice?

Mike

Cactus triggers or ebay triggers. (Use google appropiately.) These are your cheapest options.

Agree with others on here, you can buy cheap radio based triggers from HK/Ebay and they work fairly well.

You will be limited to Manual flash output but that's not so bad..

Don't use them for anything too important though - they're not all that reliable and the distances they work over aren't all that great.

Thanks.

Have looked at the Cactus Triggers, and they seem pretty sound for the cash were talking, especially as the flash mount can be mounted to a tripod :)

Anyone use these with Canon Speedlites?

Thanks again Tim :)

Im just shooting a few pics of a friend of mine, and wanted to give it a try. Investment will be made into a higher quality product eventually, but for now when the "purse strings" are tight, i will make do with something cheap :) (Especially as i have no real idea about using flash properly  )

Search google for PT-04 radio triggers. £20 for a transmitter and 2 recievers (or £14 for 1 reciever). They are not ideal if you're doing long distance (over 50m) shoots but for studio and stuff with flash no more than 20m they are fine. I've got a set and they have never misfired within 20m or so.

PS: I use them with a 430EX and a Jessops cheap flash, both on manual.

if i remember, the 430 doesnt have any sockets on it, so i think you will need a hotshoe to sync cable adaptor as well

I got my Cactus V2s this morning and they work great with my 430EX (the cable supplied in the box wasn't needed)

Just waiting on my light stand and umbrella mount/bracket/adapter thingy now :)

i use catus (PT-04) triggers and the reciever bolts to my tripod, not ideal but it works dam well, I have a 450d and a 430exII

You won't need a sync cable with the cactus style triggers. Your flash plugs into the receiver via its hotshoe.

The reciever also has a mount for the tripod. Word of advice though, the mount can be a bit wobbly so glue it in place to keep it tight.

£14 from ebay and you are sorted.

I have a couple of these Cactus triggers, and although they work fine, I'm not over impressed with the locking system that holds the hot shoe unit in place. I've found it not strong enough and the flash tends to topple especial when at an angle. I use an flash hot shoe adapter to plug into the receiver and then screw the adapter onto the light stand assembly.

That's what I was meaning. If you put a dollop of super glue on the thread of the locking nut and bit where the metal bracket presses against the receiver housing then tighten the nut right in it will lock firmly in place.
