430ex ii Vs 580ex i

I've spent the morning trying to find a comparison, but all the info i find is for the 580ex ii.

So i have the option of the two, the 580 is 2nd hand but with 6mth warrenty with the 430 being new from a number of retailers and they're the same price (£180-190).

comments please.

Buy the 430, and tell me where the 580 is for £180.

The 430ex II will possibly refresh quicker and will be weather proof. But the 580ex will be brighter by a considerable margin and has a better UI with it's click wheel.

Also the 580 will tilt and swivel in more directions.

Never had a problem with my 430EX not being powerful enough. But if you can get a 580EX for the same price (even second hand), that is the way to go.

IMHO most non-pro's will seldom use the extra power or features the 580EX offers. It is also quite a big beast to lug around.

Main difference, apart from double the power (one stop more light), is the 580 can be used as a Master. Pretty vital with multiflash units in E-TTL mode, but if you switch to manual you can work around it and sync up with separate triggers.

Personally, I would go for the 580 if only for the power. You'll need it for bouncing or with most kinds of diffuser.
