Yes
Hi Guys,

Just put my flash on my 40D today and it doesn't want to work. The thing is, the flash has been fired no more than 100 times.

Earlier, the text on the LED was flashing constantly, the ETTL and zoom bit. And no pilot light. Nothing would fire.

So I charged the batteries and have put them back in, it fired a few times but now it isn't working again.

The LED text is solid, and the pilot light is lit up. When I press the pilot light, it fires. But if I take a picture, I get nothing?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Is the pilot light red?

have you checked the batteries again?

So its firing but the flash of light is not enough or not timed correctly to register on the image which comes out dark is that what your saying ?

If so it sounds like its either be set to low power in manual mode or are you firing using a wireless trigger which needs a lower sync speed than the one you have set?

Just guessing here without knowing exactly how your firing it and what is displayed on the flash before it fires and what mode the camera is in.

Put it on your camera and try resetting it,through the camera menu, clear all flash settings

as for you getting nothing on your shot that could be a different problem with your camera settings F number and such

Flash is in ettl.

Flashes when I press pilot, but when I press the shutter it doesn't fire. The pic takes, but not flash.

Try it with fresh non-rechargeable batteries. Rechargeables do that when they're fugged.

Seems weird though considering they are Enelopes and they have only been charged 3 times since new?

To check batteries pop them in another power sapping device.
Seems odd, have a look at the flash shoe. Is it loose on the foot wobbly etc. it could be the shoe. I have heard of this before when the small spring plates hold it on the pins, they could be lower than the hole they are set in, or the ones on the shoe itself.
Have you got triggers, for OCF, or a sync cable try them with it in manual.

I had this problem a few times with my flash and camera, in the end I found out the hotshoe of the camera had just come slightly loose so the flash wasn't making connection with the camera, all you need to do is remove the plate on the bottom part of the hotshoe and tighten the screws underneath, a two minute job.

Google it for piccy help :) That was my problem though, not necessarily yours
