Hi all,

As the title says, im strongly considering buying this flash for my macro photos. This will be my first flash, so you can imagine, i pretty much know nothing about flashes. I have done a little reading and will be making a diy diffuser. And have read that ill need a off shoe camera cord too, as i'll want to move the flash around a little.

I'll be shooting with the 100mm 2.8L lens.

I just want everybody's opinion really before i buy this lens. I chose it over ring flashes just because i dont want the reflection of the ring in bugs eyes and things. The type of macro i do is bug shots, some flower and also water drops/collisions. So, good choice? And anything else i'll need?

This is the type of shot i get without flash. I want to be able to get a bigger dof with better lighting:

Hi, here is my experiences,I have the 650d with 100 macro is. A good support will be needed for the 430ex which can be expensive. I purchased the the 270ex11, obviously it's not as versatile as the 430. I Tend to use the camera for the settings for the 270 as the 270 has no screen. But it is very light only 2x AA batteries required. I use a stofen and a cheap jessops material diffuser both at the same time. In combination with an eBay flexible double arm ( cheap Chinese probably). The arms can handle the weight of the 270. You will find after a while the arm gets a bit floppy for want of a better word. However an electrical cable tidy sorts this out. At present I have been using this set up the past year and have not bothered to get another 270 for the other arm. but in the end the mt24ex rules.

I Cannot understand canon not now producing a wireless version for today's cameras with built in wireless
