On the look out for a smart
tv for my son ,budget of £350 . I don't know much about tv's so any pointers would help .

I've got the LG WebOS Smart TV (42LB731V) and love the interface and it is by far the fastest smart TV interface I've used. The Samsung one was laggy as hell and cluttered in comparison.

With a budget of 350 I would suggest spending the money on a quality non-smart set and purchasing a Google Chromecast to essentially smart-enable it.

Do you happen to know what smart-features he's looking for?
 
Funny you mentioning Chromecast ,was thinking the same thing .
 
They are an excellent solution and in a lot of ways surpass most TV's built-in smart features

Roku 3 HD Digital Media Streamer
 
currys had a 49" LVC for £269.. I just got a chromecast and now have it streaming movies from my desktop to the TV over wifi..
 
In the end I bought the Roku 3 ,seem to work fine except for youtube viewing gets interupted by a blue screen every onow and again . Any other users on here shed any light on this .

What's your internet speed - is it having to pause and buffer?
Our Panasonic seems to be OK on 5MB/s probably playing at 1080p
However if a laptop is trying to download something at the same time the TV will just freeze frame until it has buffered again.

Our speed at the moment is 35 mb up and 11 mb down ,I may try another hdmi cable ,I'm using a 3 mtr one just now . When playing a youtube video the screen goes blue for about 2 seconds then carries on play ,this'll happen 3 to 4 times during video.
