This week the challenge is...

Country Life

Flora, fauna, people, whatever you like, but show me life and living things in the countryside, fields, parks, woodland etc.. As well as an appealing subject, please think of how the environment and lighting add to the aesthetics of the scene.

All the usual rules apply:

All entries must be new photos, taken within the time frame of the comp.
Maximum of 3 entries per person.
Limited PP, cropping, exposure control, sharpening etc is okay, multi layered cut and pasting is not.
The winner chooses the theme for the following challenge.

Entries can be posted from 8pm on Thurs 12th November until 9pm on Sunday 15th November, with the winner announced later that evening.

I will see what I can come up with, I'm in West London and I'm heading out to the fields soon. First competition I've entered so it will be odd to see how I can do.

Welcome to the challenge. Hopefully you will be a regular visitor here. Who knows, perhaps you'll be running next week's contest :)

hmmm has puzzled me with idea this one.

think best to go for a walk n see what i can find!

The rules state that entries may be submitted from 20:00 tomorrow night. I'm sure there are loads of people champing at the bit to get their photos in and just desperate for the clock to turn forward.

I will try to send a reminder at 20:00 tomorrow that the challenge is open for submissions. Patience, young Padawan.

I have a few photos that I will share tonight. Not amazing but certainly based on "Country Life" :)

Good stuff. You can enter up to three images, but they must have been taken during this week, between the announcement of the new challenge last Sunday night and the closing time of 21:00 this coming Sunday.

I used to be a regular contributor to this thread, but life's got in the way lately and I haven't posted on here for months :$
Looks like numbers are dwindling, so in the hope of drumming up some more interest here's a shot from me for this week.

Snapped with my old camera while walking the dog, not brilliant and with some annoying lens flare but at least it's on theme and it's a reminder to me to try to get back into this weekly comp.

Here's one of my entries, I'm still pondering over whether I'll enter some others :)

I was a regular on this challenge for a while, but to be honest, over the summer months, it seems that I've spent more time out cycling than with the camera. Now the weather's coming in a bit, I'm starting to get out 'togging a bit more. I saw that there had been a one-entry week and thought "I don't like to see it go like that" so made sure I shot something that would suit (albeit not really "Flora/Fauna/People as per the initial lines of the brief!)

it feels so crowded here this week ... hope I'm posting to the right thread :)

Good to see it getting busy again !!!! :D

When I first joined I was posting here every week, but like you other stuff started to get in the way.
Mine's a bit of a snapshot this week, but from next week I want to start making a bit more of an effort again. Between this and my 52 I should have enough inspiration to get the camera out at least twice a week

Here's one of my entries, I'm still pondering over whether I'll enter some others :)

Go on, let's see your other entries too!

Nice to see the numbers up indeed :)

Remember we are trying an extension till 9 o'clock tonight, just to give time to pull in a few extra entries, so if you want to submit more than one photo, or for anyone else still to submit an entry there are ~3 hours remaining.

would have posted but something popped up today and didn't haves time :-( I like doin these to!

You have 45 minutes to snag yourself an owl/fox. We can wait :)

OK, closed for further entries. I'll pick the winners and get back shortly.

Congrats to everyone who entered, and thanks for taking the time. I've been studying the photos for a while so I have my placings figured out, although it was tough to decide on 2nd and 3rd place.

The results....

In 3rd place, The Big Yin, with the country cottage....

In 2nd place, Sarah Lee with the wonderful Autumn Colours....

And in 1st place, with two great images to choose from, I pick Alison's country gents, because I love this sort of lighting against a moody, dark sky, and it is perfectly on topic....

As a dog owner myself I also loved the dog shot, but I think it could have done with a little contrast boost to spice it up, which might have nudged it ahead of the chaps.

Commiserations to Gvozdi and Carl. Maybe next week :)

Alison, well done. Your prize for winning is to pick the theme for the coming week and set up and run the challenge. Over to you.

Congratulations Alison.
I too was admiring the lighting in that shot

Well done to everyone else as well. It's good to see some more interest in the challenge.

No pressure Alison, but hopefully next week's theme will be equally inspiring.
I really do want to get back in the habit of posting for this weekly challenge.

Well done, I didn't think I was going to get anywhere because it wasn't a good enough photo. I will have to try harder next time :)

Thanks very much for the flattering comments everyone  I thought the other entries were far better than mine and really enjoyed looking at them.

I just had a lucky 30 second window to work with this wonderful golden light and dramatic sky – I grabbed 3 shots of different subjects (which you are welcome to see) then everything went dull and flat.

I’d like to propose “Blue” as the next challenge.

How does this work? Do I start a new thread or is a reply in this one sufficient?

Please start a new thread, suitably titled. If you copy and paste the text from the first post in this thread and then change the bits that need changing for the theme and the due dates that will get things kicked off.

i would have chose that 1st pic to, love it! all were good though hope i get mine in next week! lol

Well done winners. We've got a real competition at last :)
