I think I may have some dead pixels on my cherished 400D :'(

Whilst looking at some images today I noticed a small white dot on the bottom right corner of recently taken images. I checked other images taken recently with different lenses and its still there, in the same place.

This is a full image, though I doubt you'll see it on the photobucket sized pic (though its VERY obvious on full screen full res pics);

...and here's the crop;

I've tried manually cleaning the sensor - still there.

Is this a case of dead pixels? If so, how much to repair out (just) of warranty? I know its not the end of the world, but now I know its there its all I can think about!

I have one stuck pixel on my 350D, also get 'hot' pixels from time to time on long exposures. Most of the time, you would never notice, if you do in a particular shot, just use the clone tool :)

One dead pixel is hardly worth getting repaired, it can be mapped out for you by Canon, but you'd have to send the camera to them and they might charge you to do it, worth asking though, especially if it's just out of warranty.

Well I've just given it another blast of air, and very gently wiped a lens cleaning cloth across the surface of the sensor and fired off a few test shots and its gone!!! Looks like it was dirt on the sensor afterall.... Weired as I thought dirt or dust on the sensor showed up as black / dark spots?

Oh well, job done.

It's been reported that sensor clening can trigger some from of pixel remap on the 400D and other Canon model. This is what you may have experienced as dust is always going to be dark fuzzy specs visible at narrow apertures.

Thats what I thought... Whatever its done though its worked!
