what do you guys recommend as a good Photo Printer - 4 x 6 - my wife is sick of showing images on her iPad and wants some prints

This seems to get good reviews

PictureMate Charm PM225 Compact

does anyone use it?

If we were to get one of the bigger A4 or even A2 printers - are they as good for printing 4 x 6 prints? - obviously if we got an A2 it would also be used for bigger sizes

I can see printing maybe 50 images per month ........ or should I just use one of those online labs?

Is the Canon Selphy worth a punt for such limited home printing usage???

Selphy 910....added bonus if you buy correct media diy postcards :)

Ive just done so major research on Printers and to be honest I love the Canon Pixma range having owned 3 mid range pixma photo printers with no missfeeds at all (unlike Epson)
I have just bought the Canon Pixma Pro 100S which is fantastic its A3 but results are great on smaller sizes
I bet you could save money by printing multiple up photos on an A3 and buy a cheap trimmer from staples
Calumet have the best deal ive seen on this printer
10% off RRP and £80 worth of vouchers

That's worth knowing, many thanks

Have you any idea how much a typical 7 x 5 photo print costs ........ i.e. how many do you get from a machine full of the cartridges/

IMHO unless you are going to print dozens and dozens of photos I would rather get them printed online.

You will get a proper photographic print that will last years without fading, and it will only take a few days to come in the post.

Proper manufacturer inks cost a fortune and disappear into the printer cleaning/priming tray just as fast as the cheap ink you can buy.

My Canon printer seems to drink ink when when it's not being used and I refuse to pay Canon prices for ink to allow it to do that all the time. I works out VERY expensive per print done like that.

You may get a better cost/print using the cartridges up more rapidly but I still would go on line for a proper print.

If you're printing 10-20 per month I'd go with a Selphy (I have a CP800), but for 50+ go with DSCL - much cheaper in the long run.

A lot of the problem users have with home prints not lasting long is the type of paper they print on. Yellowing or colours fading is down to the acid in the paper. Look for acid free papers, such as those from Permajet, amongst others, and the prints will outlast you and your offspring (and their offspring as well!!).
