4.3 TV images

I have virgin tv and a V6 box, when i watch the old comedies like fools and horses or early last of the summer wine my TV has started displaying them in 4.3 not filling the screen like it used to. I dont think its a virgin thing because its the same on freeview through my ariel, i have not changed anything on the tv and when i looked the 4.3-16.9 setting setting on the tv it is grayed out.
Any ideas any one.

Depends on what's happened.

You may recall these old shows being recorded in 4:3. On widescreen, it leaves black bars either side. As long as the transmission is in 4:3, you will be able to adjust to either stretch the image to fit or zoom and crop. But if the transmission is in 16:9 (ie they've left black bars in), then you won't be able to do anything.

EDIT: I've done a quick google and it confirms these are "HD" transmissions, which means 16:9 format from the source. That's why you can't change it.
