Hi all i have yet another question about my camera that i cant get my head round.

When, where and how would i use the 3D tracking autofocus feature on the D90? i have had a wee play with it but not sure what it is for or what situation i would use this in.

Any help?

change your auto focus mode in your menu (not sure exactly where, but its in there :))
or setup one of the button to the front of the camera so that you press that and dial the command dial, it will change the AF mode to dynamic, point, 3d tracking

<--- idiot!!! misread the post mate!!! you can use 3D tracking to track moving objects, a boat, a far plane, a walking bird, a flying bird. I never tried sumthing that moves extremely fast yet

But it does work?

I've tried using mine for shooting birds in flight. Looking at the results, though, it definitley helps to set the speed of the auto-focus to either "long" or "normal", as "short" makes the camera focus on trees as you pan through the woods with the camera (instead of the birds).

The idea of the function is that it can track moving objects and keep them in focus (once it's established what it's supposed to be tracking). In my experience though, it's not the easiest function in the wolrd to use and will take a lot more practise on my part, until it improves the standard of my images.

In answer to your, "Does it work" question, I'd say; Yes, but you have to work with it :|!

That was no help, was it ?
