This week the challenge is...

You've Been Framed

The idea here is to compose your photograph so that your subject, which can be anything you like, is naturally framed by the surrounding environment.

Usual rules apply:

All entries must be new photos, taken within the time frame of the comp.
Maximum of 3 entries per person.
Limited PP, cropping, exposure control, sharpening etc is okay, multi layered cut and pasting is not.
The winner chooses the theme for the following challenge.

Entries can be posted from 8pm on Thurs 29th October until 8pm on Sunday 1st Novermber, with the winner announced later that evening.

As we've had a bit of a faulty start to this week's contest I thought I'd issue a reminder to anyone following this thread that you can submit entries from 8:00 tonight.

Just to help move things along, while this is not a perfect example by any means, here, is an idea of the kind of thing I'm after....

I'm sure you can all do much better :)

Just giving this a bump, in case anyone is watching. I would hate to be the winner of my own contest (run on behalf of someone else), with a sample picture I did not even enter. I know you're all champing at the bit so don't forget, submissions need to be in before 20:00 tonight. Happy shooting :)

I hate to see this thread with no photos ... trying to do something about it :)

Well, congratulations Gvozdi for taking first and second places in this week's contest, and thanks for participating :)

In 2nd place we have this fine example....

In first place we have this excellent interpretation of the theme, showing frames everywhere, not least the natural framing by the doorway around the main subject....

Well done Gvozdi and over to you for next week.

thanks tdodd, i should have posted 3 photos to get the 3rd place as well ...

but honestly this is getting dull ... when so few people take part ...
why  ? is there too many other contests?

hope this is temporary downturn

time frames bit short for me and to be honest I have only just seen it now its over!

I want to start getting back into these comps - good way of getting you out of your comfort level and trying new stuff.

One thing I've never understood though - why do we have to wait until Thursday to enter instead of just sticking the photo up when we have taken one we like? :)

you are more than wellcome :)

Idea is that people are given time to come up with their own ideas, not being affected by other entries. I think it makes sence ...

It also looks like an hour between 8 and 9pm on Sunday is crucial, and could get us at least two more entries tonight, so I am extending timeframe till 9 pm for the next week. Hope this will help ;)

I also want to get into these comps, work committing.

Please keep them going, its good to see how different people interpret themes

Unfortunately the previous winner went AWOL and did not set up the competion for the week just gone, so as second place winner I was asked to step in and set something up, but it meant we lost a couple of days at the beginning of the week waiting to see whether the winner showed up.

It is really important that whoever wins does take their responsibility seriously to run the following week's contest. Personally I have an alarm reminder set for 20:00 on Sunday to check in later that evening and see whether I won. If I have won then I will set up the next week's contest that same evening. That way I hope that the momentum for the contest is maintained. Leaving it a couple of days really isn't good enough.

The submissions may not be allowed till Thursday, and the reason for that has been expalained, but there might well be valuable shooting opportunities on Monday or Tuesday, even Sunday night, if only people knew what they were supposed to be shooting. So we do need the theme to be announced as quickly as possible, on Sunday night if possible.

I think this is a nice, friendly little contest, that does encourage people to try new things, so let's please try to keep it going, with better support and the winners doing their bit to help.

By the way, when I see the new contest set up I subscribe to the thread so that I will be reminded of the contest whenever someone submits an entry. That way, hopefully, it will not slip off my radar and I will have something to enter.
