380EX Over Exposing

Bought a cheap 380ex that is over exposing (sold as just that, hence low price).
Any thoughts on what might be causing it and if it's fixable?

Is it suitable for your ettl or ttl on the camera?

Might have some settings out put them back to default on both the flash and camera

It's suitable for e-ttl but didn't come with a manual, how do you reset it to default?
Camera is a 30D and works fine with the Jessops flash so I suspect settings are ok on there.

You cannot reset the 380ex! have you got it set to high speed sync?
There is a switch on the back with a flash sign (left side) switch it to the left.
I have a link somewhere for an online manual, i'll find and post it for you.
