I've just signed up to do an AS Level course in photography at the local college (more for something to do on an evening :lol: but I DO want to learn more about photography ). I have a wee problem in that it is a film based course and I don't possess a film camera :shake: I have a Nikon D70, so want to get a Nikon 35mm film camera.

Can anyone give me any suggestions what I should be looking at? (I don't have a clue), and what I can expect to pay? I'm on a really tight budget and this is an expense I could really do without, so the cheaper, the better :) Also, I'm taking it that my lenses I have for my D70 will work ok on a standard Nikon 35MM :shrug:
 
You might want to look in here - dont quote me but he was willing to give this to a student at one point soo long as it was going to be used and appreciated (not sure if its still available though)
 
I have an F65 somewhere, Cheryl. I think I might still have the box for it too...
 
I would recommend an F80.
Won't break the bank, but about as similar to your D70 as you'll get - meaning you should feel right at home with it.
They go for about £80-£100 on Ebay second hand, last I checked.
 
Warehouse Express have got an offer for new F80's complete with some sort of Nikon zoom lens for £149 (rrp of £339). Gotta the bargain of the century..... ok OTT. :shrug:

All Nikon AF mount lenses (except DX) will work on the F80.
 
I was looking to do AS level Photography in the evenings too but our local college doesn't do it, they do however do NCFE courses in photography. The NCFE courses cover pretty much the same topics but you can choose to use either a digital or film camera then you study the relevant parts for either film or digital. If you local college does this course it may save you having to splash out on a film camera.

Hmm...now that does look tempting. I already have the 28-80mm lens so could sell that and make some cash back :D
 
Or you could take my F65 off my hands... ;)
 
I have just picked up an EOS 3 and immediately I noticed that there wasn't an LCD screen :thinking:

Just joking - about the LCD screen that is.

It's second hand and it's only taken about 10 rolls of 36. So far :thumbs:
 
I wouldn't spend much on it myself. I doubt you'll use it after. You just want one that takes your current lenses and works full manual I reckon. The F65 looks alright if it is a decent price. This assumes you can't afford a Leica ;-)
 
I may be talking out of my arse but don't most of Nikon's current line of film SLR's below the F80 all do weird things? As in, lots of automatic features that you can't turn off?
If that's not BS, then it may be a problem.
 
The F75 is very much like a D70, without a sensor - actually, that's not true. You get a new sensor with every shot! :lol:

In Nikon's own terms, they only manufacture the F6.....
 
I go to my first class on tues, so I'm gonna wait & see what they say. Warehouse Express have some very tempting offers on at the minute though!

The difference between the F75 and F80 is mearly a larger viewfinder, can push ISO, F80 is also of a bit better build and i think it has a bit faster FPS rating. Other then that they are more or less equal.
 
I completely forgot about the F75 :D

But don't the current ones below the F75 do odd things? :suspect:
 
Not as far as I'm aware - the 65 is based more at consumers and has the same 'Preset Programs' that you get on the D70. It still as PASM as well though. Also, the 65 doesn't have the same custom system, grid in the viewfinder, etc. I'd have to look up the other differences as I'm not 100% sure exactly what they are.
 
OK, no worries - I am talking out of my rear, then!
I was under the impression (god knows where from) that even the PASM modes all did odd things, like adjusting aperture because it thinks it knows better (in A mode).
