Bit out of touch with film prices. I think I last shot colour in 2018 and had been using my stash of agfa vista and fujifim superia 200. I actually sold quite a bit of the later on ebay a few years ago just had too much to use within date. Naive - I only just discovered that they stopped making this a few years ago.

I was looking at film prices today and reading comments on how expensive thay are ( and I know Kodak just hyped prices by 20%) but I had a feeling that when I was buying consumer colour neg film ( agfa/konica/kodak ) in the 70's-90's it wasn't that cheap then so I had a look:

I just found this online source of historic Argos catalogues and some film prices ( just used inflation calculator from Bank of England ):

1980 Kodacolor 36 exp incl process and 6x4 printing £6.49 in todays money per pack 28.9
1985 Kodacolor 36 exp twin pack ( no process ) 5.49 in todays money per pack 8.5 /pack
1990 Kodacolor Gold 36 exp 3 pack 9.49 in todays money per pack 7.3/pack
1999 Kodacolor Gold 36 exp 4 pack 13.99 in todays money per pack 6.2/pack

Today

Boots have Fuji sup 400 at 8.99, Amazon have 5 pack of Portria 160 at £50. Wilkos Kodak Color Plus 200/36 £6.
Maybe, ballpark, 10 quid for a 36 exp roll ??

So, if the inflation adjustments are appropriate looks like it was never cheap - in my film era

I have the feeling that inflation-adjusted film prices took a dip a few years ago, and are now back up to something like historic levels. We all have short memories, which is why we grumble so much. Thanks for the reminder, Richard!

I have a long memory, so I grumble because I remember how much better things were years ago :)
