This week the challenge is...

Motion

I'd like to see shots that convey a sense of motion or speed, so tweak those shutter speeds and get panning, zooming, strobing, or do whatever it takes to capture or create a sense of movement.

Usual rules apply:

All entries must be new photos, taken within the timeframe of the comp.
Maximum of 3 entries per person.
Limited PP, cropping, exposure control, sharpening etc is okay, multi layered cut and pasting is not.
The winner chooses the theme for the following challenge.

Entries can be posted from 8pm on Thursday 10th September until 8pm on Sunday 13th September, with the winner announced later that evening.

Have lots of fun and maybe try something new :)

Today is fine for taking the photos, as were Monday and Tuesday too, and even Sunday night.

The only reason to delay posting till later in the week is so that people have a chance to use their own imagination before seeing what other people are choosing to do. If you want to post tomorrow night then that is great, as it might then stimulate others to participate. The number of entries each week has been quite low recently so it would be great to get things going as soon as the rules allow.

Cheers,
Tim.

1st one is thanks to the Welding glass thread.

2nd one taken today in the garden with Oliver and Mum.

3rd one is Oliver on his trampoline. Very strange. Never seen one come out like this before. Almost looks like it's 2 pictures combined.

A great start there, Merc - plenty of variety :)

Nice set, Longshanks.

Come on peeps - we need more entries :)

I can believe (s)he's running (almost) ;) Thanks for entering :)

Thanks for the entries. :)

Now closed to further entries. Let the judging begin.....

The results....

In third place we have Nick T with this entry....

The choice of shutter speed has nicely recorded the spinning of the wheels and allowed pannig to blur the background - a classic "motion" shot and nicely executed.

In second place we have Merc with this entry....

This has movement, fun, good composition and I don't know how you did it. Well done on this photo and for trying out some other things too :)

In first place, with a great set of images, I picked this entry from Longshanks as the overall winner....

We have a nice composition, with an interesting subject, and the exposure balanced very nicely between all elements of the scene. Of course, the icing on the cake is the spinning stars in the sky - wonderful, and a worthy winner. Well done on your other entries too.

Comfy, your shot is a terrific action shot, and a close runner up, but on this occasion I'm going for the images where the camera was used as a tool to emphasise the motion in the scene.

Commiserations to everyone else. Although they were all good photos, I felt that the choice of camera settings was not used to maximum effect in order to emphasise the motion and to convey a strong sense of movement. Better luck next time. :)

Kevin, over to you to pick next week's theme and run the competition :)

Can't fault the 1st place there, a super shot and a worthy winner for any competition :)

Congrats to Merc too on a nicely done shot - but I have no idea what I'm doing rounding off the top three! Cheers tdodd, and loking forward to the next challenge! :)

A very worthy winning picture and great runners up

Well done Longshanks :)

The picture with Oliver. Was taken by standing behind Mum with the camera on her shoulder and spinning round with them both. Wide angle and SB600 flash.

Thanks, Merc. I guessed it might be something like that but it doesn't sound like an easy thing to do. Good job

Whoo hoo! I won!!
I'll have a think quick think about this and pick a theme for next week later today!

:) No problem and no it wasn't the easiest shot to take but one i think i will try again and again and again and again:dummy:......... And one day will probably get right.
