32 Bit Vista [Home Premium] and Memory Recognition

I recently upgraded my new PC with it's max capacity of 4GB RAM on a 32 bit Vista Home Premium OS and the OS only recognises 3GB of it. I am told that 32 bit OS's can only recognise 3GB and other forums and advise columns say that I need to upgrade my OS to a 64 bit.

Any thoughts or experiences anyone had on the above before?

All versions of 32bit Vista can recognise up to a maximum of 4GB of RAM, but does not allow all of it to be used by the user. Some people have reported that they have between 3.2 and 3.8GB available.

Upgrading to 64bit will allow you to use all your RAM, Is your processor 64bit compliant though ?

Thanks Milestone for your reply. I have bought the PC with E6600 Intel Core Duo. I beleive it is 64 bit compliant. Do let me know if it's not.
