Yes
I can,t get my cam to spot meter through the usual press button, look in LCD and turn dial method, but can through the select AF point method. As this is 2nd cam i have only used a couple of times and was wondering if i was doing something wrong:shrug: :help:

Mitch

sorry mitch im a bit confused..... which mode are you in for starters...manual?

am in AV at moment but can't do it in any of the creative modes:shrug:

but seriously - have you set a cf to use main dial for AF point selection?

what method do you use to select a focus point - joypad or other?

Joypad is the only way i can spot meter at moment

I think we are confusing spot metering with autofocusing here

 puzzler........ Dont have mine anymore so can't experiment....... Dropped the battery out and reset?

Just checking if Mitch had re-assigned functions.........

Yes but he said joypad is the only way he can spot meter.

you dont "spot meter" with teh joypad..... the joypad has nothing to do with metering.

spot metering is not selecting an AF point.

To select spot metering, press the metering mode button (right hand on the top) and use the small scroll wheel to select spot.

In normal function - isn't there also a function on the 30d that allows AF selection viz main dial? If so its conceivable that the functions could have been reassigned.

Either way, it's a moot point as Mitch says he didn't assign a CF.

Jeez, anyone would have thought i'd suggested he buy a different brand of camera :D :D

You spot meter, Mitch, by selecting it in the metering mode, instead of matrix, etc. select spot (the small dot icon)

then when you meter, it meters from the smallest round circle in teh middle of your screen.

nothing to do with autofocus points at all.

Sorry my mistake i meant focus points, have removed all batteries and refitted but no difference:shrug:

LOL - Mitch causes riot :)

You can select AF points with the main dial Mitch, but you have to select a custom function from the menu :)

Is it possible for a man to have a blonde moment:nuts:

you should try going into Av mode and then

menu/custom functions

scroll through them until you get to AF point selection

select normal and try that.

my 20d and my 5d both allow adjustment of the AF point by scroll wheel, thumb wheel and the joypad on normal mode.

Have just checked against 5D and yes it is possible for a man to have a blonde moment:cuckoo: :gag: :cuckoo:

explanation!!! I convinced myself that auto focus and spot metering were both achieved when that little red square lit up in the middle:bang: :bang:
