My onboard flash doesnt pop up anymore. Ive tried putting the camera on automatic and going somewhere darkish but it still takes a photo without the flash.
I assume this means that its not the button at fault.

Is there any point bothering about it really as I have a Sigma flashgun?

Morning Janice,

Does the flash actually pop up if you just press the button?? i know its supposed to pop up automatically when the conditions are right but as you already said that doesnt happen?
If you purchased it from a local shop maybe pop it into them and get them to have a look, may as well get it working even if you do have a sigma flash gone as well.

No it doesnt pop up at all. button or no button.

Ok, well, i havent had it for long but is there a way of resetting the 30d to default settings just to make sure its not something like that stopping it? If that doesnt work then i guess you need to ask yourself do you want it working or not?? Just thinking if you were ever to sell the camera to upgrade for example and the inbuilt flash didnt work it may put people off. Just a thought :cuckoo:

Trying it on mine it doesn't seem to be a mechanical release, it sounds like an electronic relay pulls back to release the flash. Try jiggling the button just in case it's bad contacts if that doesn't work and the camera is under guarantee send it in for repair. Otherwise get an estimate from Canon to see if it's worth it.

when you push the release on my 20D it doesn't always work. You can here it "clicking" three times then it gives an error message. Could have put it in for repair but hardly use it so didn't bother.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! :D

I'll have a fiddle with mine tonight and see if there's a trick to getting it to pop up ;)

Good God Paul!!! Don't make it toooo subtle will you

Sorry John, don't know whats come over me this morning

I've had this before with my 10D and Sigma flash. The problem was that the Sigma flash had pushed the contacts in too far. You know when you tighten the flash so it stays put? What you need to do is very carefully take the hot shoe appart so the contact pops back out. This site may help.

If you are having trouble Paul, give me a ring... I will pop round and give you a 'hand' !! :D

Thanks Pete, I hope it could be that........I did use the Sigma the other day.. damn, this forum is good!

No probs.......I took the hot-shoe off completely and all contacts are now in full working order! Now everything is popping up that should be popping up......and I didnt lose a screw either! ;) :naughty:
