Traveling to Derbyshire in a couple of weeks, Have quite a few places to visit listed and would like to visit the 3 Shires. As we will have a walking wounded on board can anyone advise the best place to park the vehicle for the shortest walk?. Would also like to visit Luds Church.

Any advise please.
Thanks

Surprised no-one has replied.

The closest easy parking for Three Shires Head is the layby on the A54 around SK007698, however you could go down to Cutthorn Farm (the road to it is very narrow but is public) and ask if you could park there as that would give a much easier walk.

For Luds Church there is a small car park at Gradbach SJ998662. The car park at the youth hostel would be a little closer but I've no idea if that is available to the public - again, you could take the sympathy card and ask.

The youth hostel for Luds Church is no more and the building is now being renovated so you can't access the car park there anymore. There is a pay and display half a mile before or the scouts are just past it. Maybe knock and ask if you can park there :)

Hi Guys, My original message should have read In a week not a couple of weeks. So I have now visited the area, pity as the above would have been really helpful..
On the visit we Travelled along A54, turned off onto the small by road, no worries as my 4x4 could handle with ease. We were greeted with many gates to open and shut, at first I thought it would be a task, but the views were fantastic and managed to get some great video footage. Made our way down and with in no time made it to the small car park at Gradbach, however there was no signs to Luds Church, asking some campers I was told where it was.
Quite a trawl to get there passing some nice country side with the river, finally made it.
Was hoping to make it to The Three Shires but just too bushed out and to be honest was not sure where it was as I had left my map back at the cottage.

I missed your post until today but am not local (unlike Stuart). Many gates to open? Was the trip a green-laning one? Lots of good green lanes around there despite the efforts of the tramplers to have all countryside open to them and no-one else. It's easy enough to get to Gradbach without gates

Its my fault I should have bumped it up..
Looking at Google Earth all looks familiar now, The road we took off the A54 lead down to "Hole - Edge", this is the road we followed through, passing various small holdings and the opening of many gates, good choice with terrific views .. Google Earth only takes one so far off the A54 reaching a point to a track and sign on left "Except for Access" and small holding on right, looking now that would have been an ideal place to walk through.
Might well travel that way next year and will have more idea of where I am going...
