3 months FREE hosting with 1&1

I hosted quite a few sites with these, they can be a bit funny when you want to cancel, you have to give them so many weeks notice, you cant just let the subscription run out, like most other sites.
Of course, you dont normally find out till renewal time!!

They don't look too bad as long as you don't expect much traffic.
 
I would never use them again after my experiences with them, paid a backlog i had run up due to marriage breakup hell causing me to forget to cancel. Then they decided later to try to bill me for a further £5 for no apparant reason after clearing what i owed in full.

Here is what I posted...I can go into it in more detail if you will, but just so you know, I am still trying to cancel my last server, and have been for 5 months.

There was a time when our 3 web servers and 20 sites went offline for 3 days, we lost thousands and were not prepared for it - stupid of us. Thats when we decided to move. It ended up being a faulty router in their data centre, 3 days to find that? JOKE!


"1 and 1 in my opinion are a bunch of monkeys, and they should be shut down. If you ever have a problem, tough titties, you will get nowhere with them. I talk from 3 years experience with them (4 servers, 200+ domain names and several other bits and bobs). What a headache it was moving the lot, but worth every minute.

I now use RACKSPACE who are overly expensive but literally answer queries within 5 minutes 24/7/365. They are probably the best ISP out there based on lots of reviews and technical ability & support.

123-REG I would say are the best guys for domains, nice and easy to use interface, they send you reminders for months in advance when a domain name is due, and you can buy for as many years within reason, as you see fit.

Please trust me, 1 and 1 are an absolute joke, 100%."

Just a +1 for stay away form 1&1.

Friend hosts a load of his customers with them. He does part time web development for friends and local businesses (not his full time job, just something he enjoys doing).

Called me up one day because it had problems getting onto any of his websites. After some investigation I found out that one of the 1&1 routers/firewalls was dropping his connections. No problem I thought, a quick cll to 1&1 and it'll be sorted. No such luck, they denied the problem existed.

At work we're probably one of Rackspace's biggest customers in terms of number of servers, they're superb. Bandwidth pricing is silly but other than that they're superb.

Rackspace are trully awsome. Stupid prices, but you get what you pay for.

Definately the most customer focused company I have ever dealt with in any industry.
