This week the challenge is...

Body Parts

This could be human, animal or anything else with a "body", such as a vehicle. I'm looking for photography that isolates and emphasises a specific part of the "body", such as eyes, claws, teeth, headlamp etc.. You can isolate the chosen part with tight framing, shallow DOF or creative lighting, or you can simply choose an angle that places emphasis on the chosen part while including the rest of the "body" as well. Anything goes, so long as it is work/child safe, but imaginative thinking will earn extra points :)

Usual rules apply:

All entries must be new photos, taken within the timeframe of the comp.
Maximum of 3 entries per person.
Limited PP, cropping, exposure control, sharpening etc is okay, multi layered cut and pasting is not.
The winner chooses the theme for the following challenge.

Entries can be posted from 8pm on Thursday 30th July until 8pm on Sunday 2nd August, with the winner announced later that evening.

Hopefully we might see more entries, but importantly just have "Fun".

I hope people like it. Initially I was going to go just for "Eyes" but thought that might be a bit of a narrow topic that could put people off. I think there is a huge scope of potential for "Body Parts". I hope others do too :) I just wish it didn't sound quite so macabre.

Karma, entries should only be submitted from 8pm on Thursday through to the close at 8pm on Sunday. Can you please withdraw your entry for now and hang on to it till Thursday. This is so people can have a few days to think/work on their own ideas before starting to see what others do. Thanks.

I will try to add a post to remind everyone on Thursday evening.

This week's competition is now open for entries. I'm looking forward to some interesting and inspired photos :)

Don't forget you can enter up to three photos each.

Top marks for creative thinking there. :)

Looking forward to more entries.... :)

Looking forward to seeing your ideas, Sarah.

Karma, you're good to go now.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. What picture had I up again?

Anyway, here's another I took since that should also fit the bill!

Thanks for posting, Karma.

To everyone else - only 24 shooting/posting hours to go. Don't forget you can post up to three images each.

Hi Tim,

Couple from me so far....couldn't make me mind up, so posted both of them.

Thanks for you entry, Graham.

Sarah, don't miss the boat - less than four hours to go. Same for you, Jenny.

Everyone else, there are some good ideas coming in and the entries are nowhere near as seedy as the competition theme might suggest, so get your thinking caps on and let's see what you can do :)

Parts of the eye ... London Eye, so its actually parts of the part.
May be a bit controversial choice of body, but lets see :)

I'm loving the variety of shots coming through. 32 minutes left for any final entries!!!!!

Thank you for your effort, everyone. The window for entries has now closed. I shall announce winners later this evening.

Judgement Day

First off, thanks once again to all of you for entering and making a worthwhile competition of it this week. I congratulate everybody for entering in great spirit and stretching the boundaries of creative thinking quite a way ;)

With that said, I've deliberated and cogitated and have chosen the winners for this week. In traditional order of reverse announcement, we have....

3rd place
Following the brief perfectly, working the angles, and including a nice dramatic backdrop we have Kiwi Jaz with

2nd Place
To uniquegardens, once again bang on the brief and a nicely executed and well composed image

1st place
Again, right on brief and with wonderful texture and colour I am pleased to award first place to karmagarda for

I must say, I found the choice of focal point interesting, not to say puzzling, but the intrigue it provoked helped seal the deal.

I would also like to make an honourable mention to Gvozdi for a very nice set of images, beautifully crisp, nicely toned and with great angles/composition, but just pipped by those whose "body parts" belonged to a real "body". I have to admire the inventiveness of billybob and Comfy for their liberal interpretations of the theme and as the aim of these contests is "inspiration" it's great that you have been thinking outside the box. Jenny, very close with that butterfly tongue, but the lighting didn't work for me. Big Yin, sorry, better luck next time.

karmagarda, it is your pleasure, I hope, to pick the theme for the coming week and judge the winners.

Well done all,
Tim.

karmagarda, congrats with the 1st place!

tdodd, i was suspecting that you were looking for another bodies ... well I didnt have other ideas this time. Thanks for mentioning my work anyway.

jennyb, is that poor deer ok? his feet look quite lifeless i would say :)

Wow, thanks! I'm honestly chuffed! There were some fantastic entries this time, so I'm delighted with that :). Excellent theme may I add.

Now, let me get my thinking hat on. I'll have a quick peek at previous challenges first to make sure I don't cross over.

Just to add, the idea of the focal point was inpired by a little theme myself and a friend have going at the minute. We are trying to capture good "out of focus" photos. So it inspired me to try something different here.

Thank you Tim for my 2nd place it was very unexpected. Congratulations to Karmagarda on your winning shot, Kiwi Jaz on your 3rd and everyone else who entered.
