After a new monitor, don't play games so thought this forum would be best as it primary use is photos.

Any suggestion as to which model I should go for.

I have read elsewhere that the new 24" HC Dell is having ghosting problems.

Should I go for matt or Glossy screen.

I had seen a nice HP W2408 but unsure

So any advice welcome

I don't know what the current HPs are like but I have been dreadfully disappointed with the performance of my HP f2304 23" widescreen. It has real problems with variability of brightness across the screen and also a colour cast in the corner.
 
go for the mac screen, dogs dangles
 
I'd go with Ross' view on this - my no 1 monitor is the Ultrasharp2007 WFP and is excellent - another 4inches will be ideal for a single monitor set-up (if that is your intention) My no2 is glossy which i dont find suits photo work so well, but is great for all other media
 
Can I recommend this beast? The Dell 24" WS .... it's luvverly :)

I'm quite lucky there ... left-handed but I use the mouse right-handed. Best of both worlds!! Now I just need to learn to type with my nose, and I'm laughing :D

It's a 17" Viewsonic. I bought it back when a good 17" monitor cost hundreds of pounds, i.e. a few months before they didn't lol.
 
Those 24" Dell screens do look nice..:love:
 
I read somwhere that the apple cinema displays dont have individual RGB adjustments...

I dont know how much of the problem this might be though, but if you intend to calibrate your monitor then it might prove a bit tricky..(my graphics card has these adjustments).

You dont need them, when you build a profile for your monitor all the adjustments for everything are i there, so you never have to play with them your self. the profile tells the GFX card/monitor how to display the colours etc.

Apple Cinema Displays are superb.
 
The Dell 2407 wfp monitor really is superb. I have one on my Mac pro in preference to the Apple display. Nearly got the Dell 3007 wfp but monitor size is like wages nothing is enough so I left it with the 24". I am tempted to get the 30" next year though!

I worked with the Apple 30" display for a couple of months last year and it gave me eye/head aches. I went back to 2x 20" panels in the end.

24" really is the optimum display size when you sit less than 1.5 - 2 metres away from it.
 
I get a magazine every so often called Custom PC. It had a bloke on it about a year ago who had 2 x 30" Dell 3007 monitors and then 2 24" Dell 2407 monitors in portrait at either end! (the 30" monitor is the same height as the 24" is wide!) That would have given him a resolution of 6240x1920 ! I think he may have been making up for a deficiency elsewhere though!!

I had difficulty giving away a 24" widescreen CRT monitor a few months ago it was a SUN monitor that was capable of the same res as the DELL. Its picture was brighter but it was a pig to get straight lines on it! Anyway it took 2 people to lift, was nearly as deep as it was wide and its magnetic field made cars driving past the house swerve !! - Glad we have just about seen the end of CRTs. It was the same monitor as Sony's 24" WS CRT model which cost £1599+vat only 2 years ago - It just said SUN on the front and had 1 sun lead and 1 pc lead rather than the Sony's 2 PC sockets.
 
Ive got a Dell 2405 and I love it. Ive also got a Xerox XA7-192i next to it. Eventually id like to replace the Xerox for 2 Dell 2001s though as they are 1600x1200, giving me the same vertical resolution as the 2405. :)

I've got the same mouse and I'm a lefty too :)

Don't forget Samsung monitors if you're still looking, high quality and reasonable prices.
 
i use the 20" version of that screen, for the price I paid a few years ago I could of gotten the 24 version now, I think I would replace it with the 24 if it ever gave me any issues.

I had a friend used the 3007fpw for work but he switched back to 2x24 because he was getting sore necks and eye strain from looking at the larger screen from such a close distance.
