My pride and joy L lens has gone and lost its 'red-ring' ive just noticed its snapped-so to prevent any further damage ive taken it off :(

Any idea if you can get replacement ones?

I think the 24-105 is the main culprit when it comes to red ring loss.

I seem to remember somebody getting a ring replaced by Canon as part of a service but also recall somebody saying that it was a case of getting a new lens barrel ?

I don't mean to sound uncompassionate but red ring loss always amuses me as people have very different views about whether it really matters.

Its defiantly made my photos worse :(:lol::lol:

Sounds painful:exit:

Very hard to take :(

Try a red rubber band as a replacement. It might be enough to make you feel better.

The red ring is a sign of build quality.

If one falls off - I'd question the ethics behind replacing it ;)

Joking aside - I can't for the life of me think who it was one here that had one replaced or at least looked into replacing one.

I was thinking exactly the same. It is ironic that the symbol of quality is actually lacking in quality itself.

You could probably sell the red ring on eBay as someone is bound to buy it to glue to their lens for effect.

A bit like an XR3i with a screw on bit of metal that resembles a baked bean can bolted on the end of the exhaust !!!

Couldn't you just refit the original one and put a couple of dabs of super glue on it to prevent loss ?

+1 Just what I was thinking

Alternatively, time to upgrade to a 24-70mm f/2.8 L.. Mine is 5 yrs old this year, and I'm pleased to say my ring is still intact

Yeah think I will try that. Was hoping I could get a replacement off eBay but I can see any on there.

Anyone know what they are called?

After a quick Google it looks like the ring is only available with a new lens barrel, not on it's own, so £££££.
If you still have the ring then just glue it...job done. ;)
Very common problem on the 24-105 by the look of it.

Elastoplast?:naughty: only joking hope you get it sorted.
