All entries must be new photos, taken within the timeframe of the comp.
Maximum of 3 entries per person.
Limited PP, cropping, exposure control, sharpening etc is okay, multi layered cut and pasting is not.
The winner chooses the theme for the following challenge.

Entries can be posted from 8pm on Thursday 2nd until 8pm on Sunday 5th July, with the winner announced later that evening.

Have fun!

Definitely returning back to the original spirit here. I think that it's essential to come up with a topic that anyone can shoot, even if they can't get out and about specially for the challenge. There are times where I don't get any free time in daylight hours for weeks on end, and any restriction to outdoor shooting is a big problem.

I know i wasn't in for the first 15 or so challenges , but after I won, I did take the time to read the original challenge, and check the other's intervening before coming up with an idea - primarily to ensure I wasn't duplicating topics, but also to not trample on the original ideas behind the challenge - to encourage interpretation and creativity. :shake: Despite this, my weeks attempt descended into verbal warfare and I'm afraid may have been instrumental in putting a few people off entering. :(

Hopefully this challenge topic is wide enough that it'll get some of the regulars back. I do hope so - theres much more fun looking at 20 peoples interpretation than 5-6.:D

Nice open ended topic, thanks Jenny

Yes. Just dont post them up until Thursday.

I might give this a go
I quite like the theme and I have a few ideas of things I could try out. Seems as good a way of learning as any

Can we take photos between now and Thursday ?

Yes, I think the idea is that your ideas are not necessarily influenced by other images that have been posted.

Glad you can join us. The more the merrier.

Jenny

well it's actually stainless steel, but it is silver in colour ;)

I'm not sure how much I like this and I'm having problems getting the brightness right. I'm using a laptop tonight and the brightness changes depending what angle the screen is at.

I've got quite a few other ideas but they'll have to wait until Saturday when I can put some more time and effort into them and since we can have 3 entries I thought I'd may as well share this.

I had fun playing around with getting this anyway and that's the most important thing :)

Hi all,

nice topic... couple from me so far

It's been too wet today for me to get out and do what I had planned, but here are two more from me. . .

(If I manage to get out tomorrow I might withdraw no.1 and replace it with something else)

Just a quick note I LOVED this week theme, I had a hard time figuring out what I would be shooting, I actually went to shoot for a railroad, but as I arrived a train was going by, and I noticed the really nice silver-like wheels !

Here's my entry... just in the nick of time. Well come on.... I am theMusicMan eh!

Silver - with scratches...!!

This was actually very difficult because I liked so many of them.

Here goes....

Third place goes to uniquegardens for nuts:

I loved the symmetry but I would have moved the nuts over to the right very slightly to make them symmetrical with the background.

Second place goes to theMusicman for silver with scratches:

I really liked the DOF on this one. Very effective.

First place goes to Maxathos for your first train photo:

The reason I liked this one best is the simple flash of silver which is so sharp against the movement of the train - so much action. Well done. I would have no idea how to take a photo like that.

Before I finish there are several that I would like to mention:

Silver Lady by Steve2 just missed out on third place. It's a lovely photo but I don't know if it is my screen at fault, but the sky looks a bit odd. I am not sure what that effect is called, but can be caused by converting to 256 colour rather than 16 million colours which is usual for jpegs.

SarahLee, I loved the candles but IMO it would have been better to take the photo from further away and capture both reflections fully.

Billybob99, I loved the Bugatti and I also liked the thinking outside the box of the silverskin onion!

Well done everyone, thank you for entering. Over to you, Maxathos, for the next challenge.

Jenny

Well done Maxathos, I really liked your pic too. :)

Yay! Thanks for the first place !
I really liked this week theme! My favorite so far! I really liked Musicman picture, and unique garden picture as well!

To make this kind of photo with the impression of everything moving but one single point, simply choose the middle AF point on your DSLR, lower your ISO a lot, probably under 200, and use a very small aperture something like f/20 and up, and put the oburation to something like 1\10th of a sec.

Find something which is moving and follow it with your AF crosshair as it goes by, and press the shutter and keep folowing the object, they key for this effect is to ''aim'' at one point and keep folowing it as it moves, so you get a small portion sharp (because you aimed at it) and the rest will be blurry and out of focus. There's a lot of luck involved, you got to take many many shot until you get something good.

Will be wondering about the next week theme!

 Well done Maxathos - Interesting and Different shots and imho a worthy winner this week.

Glad to see the entries were up and (again imho) of a higher standard - good choice of theme jennyb.

well done maxathos, i really liked the picture as it showed great thought.
Jenny, my silver lady(spirit of ecstasy) was taken at the Festival of Speed on Friday and all i did was a quick fix in elements.
