I looked at several of those when I did the CITY & Guilds History of Photography module a few years ago. Fenton's work is quite breathtaking when you look at how he actually processed many of his plates - on location, in a "caravan", often under fire!!

McCulin's images are just stunning, so full of atmosphere and emotion .... Great stuff.

Yeah, the two at the top must be in it, numbering's cocked-up! The history of photography is a fascinating subject and they've got some interesting examples. Anything like this has to be subjective so it's fair to say that not all of them tick the "greatest photo" box for me but they're all a bit better than my efforts :) :)
