Hi Folks,

I was looking at getting some radio triggers to use with a Canon 50d and probably a YN568 EX mk1 or 2 flash and i can get a combination of 2 YN622C transceivers or one of these and the tx Transmitter for the same price. What would you buy?

I'm not sure the difference although i take it the transceivers can be used on speedlights where as the transmitter can only be used on the camera. Is this correct? What benefit would there be to me to purchase the transmitter instead of another transceiver? Is it just more pleasant to work with on top of the camera?

Regards

Scott

With the 622 on top of the camera, you use the camera menu to manage the flashes, which whilst it works brilliantly, is a pain to use. The 622tx us a breeze to use. But; what's the extra to buy a yn600 and a YN st E3, which is a better system if you're starting from scratch.

The extra is around £60 which is easily in budget. I thought the 600 had lots of teething problems which is why I discounted that.

I'll have another read tomorrow as it was the first option I considered. It's bundled together with the e3 for around £180 on Amazon. Thanks Phil.

If I buy the 600 kit what are the benefits. I'm assuming the 600 has a transmitter built in but what does that mean? Does it mean I can add other flashes to the set up and they won't need anything else to fire them as the 600 will do it?

Yes, but they have to all be 600's until Canon introduce more radio capable flashes.

edit.
Sorry that wasn't that clear. It's advantage is that you don't have to add a receiver for each additional flash (and extra batteries), the disadvantage is there's very little compatible with the new Canon wireless system. I use 622's and they're great, but if I was starting tomorrow I'd get the YNe3 and a 600 flash.

So there are none in the yongnuo line up either then apart from the 600's. That's not a problem as I won't be adding too many just now. I need to get the hang of one first. Hopefully working with the camera day in day out at college will improve my knowledge massively. Right now it's an hour here or there. Thanks again.

You can have an on-camera 600ex-rt TTL flash that is also acting as a master to remote slave 600ex-rt flashes. You can even use ealier 580s and 430 with the yne3-rx.

This is more awkwarrd with the 622 system, as no flash has yet been launched that acts as a flash and master transmitter at the same time.

Why YN are ignoing this obvious problem is beyond me. They should/could have incorpoated it into the 600ex-rt, ffs.

Grrrrrrr.

So really i could purchase the 600 speedlight and rather than purchase the transmitter i could buy another speedlight as the first flash will control the second? I can get a package with 2 600 speedlights and the transmitter for £280 or so which is still less than one canon 600.

Yes.

The dedicated transmitter is optional. I wouldn't bother to be honest.

The Canon version is a piece of sh!t as it doesn't incorporate an IR focus assist.

More grrrrr.

I was thinking that i'd be better just buying 2 x 600 speedlights for around £200. At least then if one dies i have a backup rather than pointing a transmitter at a subject and hoping it lights it !!! Cheers Kris.

I have both the 622Cs and also the ST-E3 transmitter. I use the 622Cs when I need to use my 580 EX2s in addition to 600 EX RTs.
Both have been great and haven't given me a hint of trouble.
